The Edmonton Elks signed wide receivers Kolby Hurford and Jackson Tachinski, and offensive lineman Domenico Piazza on Friday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Kolby Hurford is six foot one and weighs 183 pounds. The 23-year-old from Redwater, Alberta, was drafted by the Edmonton Elks in the seventh round (58th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. In 2025, Hurford made two catches for 19 yards in two preseason games. The Elks released him on May 31, 2025, as he returned to Alberta for his final collegiate season.
Collegiately, Hurford played five seasons at the University of Alberta (2021-25) with 127 catches for 1,850 yards, 14 touchdowns, three carries for five yards, five kick return for 47 yards, 10 punt returns for 138 yards, punting the ball one time for 41 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 42 games for the Golden Bears. He was selected to play in the East-West Bowl in 2024.
In 2025, Hurford made a career-high 40 catches for 438 yards, two touchdowns, one carry for -1 yard, punting the ball one time for 41 yards, four kick returns for 46 yards, and one punt return for seven yards in eight games.
Jackson Tachinski is six foot four and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, signed with the Edmonton Elks on May 5, 2025. In 2025, he made one catch for three yards in two preseason games. He was released on May 31, 2025, as he returned to Manitoba for his final collegiate season.
Collegiately, Tachinski played six seasons as a quarterback at the University of Manitoba (2019, 2021-25), completing 473 of 759 passes (62%) for 6,190 yards, 36 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 271 carries for 1,867 yards, 28 rushing touchdowns, and two tackles (2 solos) in 43 games for the Bisons. He was named Canada West Player of the Year and Manitoba Bisons Athlete of the Year in 2024.
In 2025, Tachinski completed 124 of 181 passes (69%) for 1,637 yards, eight touchdowns, six interceptions, 51 carries for 348 yards, and seven rushing touchdowns in eight games.
Domenico Piazza is six foot two and weighs 298 pounds. The 25-year-old from Mercier, Quebec, was drafted by the Edmonton Elks in the fifth round (40th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. In 2025, Domenico Piazza played center in two preseason games. The Elks released him on May 31, 2025, has he returned to McGill for his final collegiate season.
Collegiately, Piazza played five seasons at McGill University (2021-25), playing 40 games, of which 35 were starts for the Redbirds. In 2024, McGill’s offense averaged 19 points per game, 144.9 rushing yards per game, 249.44 passing yards per game, 359 total yards per game, 18 touchdowns, and allowed 51 sacks, finishing 3-6 for the season. He was named Second Team U-Sports All-Canadian.
In 2025, McGill’s offense averaged 24.67 points per game, 424.1 total yards per game, 218.67 passing yards per game, 219.6 rushing yards per game, 27 touchdowns, allowed 26 sacks, finishing 3-7 for the season. He was named to the U Sports First Team All-Canadian.
