The Toronto Argonauts have found their next head coach as they are set to name quarterbacks coach Mike Miller the new Head Coach according to Dave Naylor.
Mike Miller is 55 years old and is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Miller was the Toronto Argonauts’ quarterbacks coach for four seasons, helping the team win two Grey Cup titles. Toronto’s quarterbacks averaged 304.6 passing yards per game and 31 touchdown passes. Nick Arbuckle led the way, completing 365 of 504 passes (72.4%) for 4,370 yards, 26 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and 45 carries for 161 yards, and two rushing touchdowns.
Miller began his coaching career as a graduate assistant and running backs coach at Robert Morris University from 1997 to 1998. In 1999, Miller was named the offensive quality coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent five seasons in Pittsburgh before moving to Buffalo to become the tight ends/quality control coach for the Bills. Miller spent two seasons in Buffalo.
In 2006, Miller went overseas to become the quarterbacks coach/wide receivers coach for the Berlin Thunder. He returned to Robert Morris University in the same year when he was named the defensive line coach. He returned to the NFL a year later with the Arizona Cardinals as the team’s wide receivers coach. After two seasons, the Cardinals promoted him to passing game coordinator for two years, followed by an offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2012.
Miller got his first taste in the CFL when he was named the assistant coach/offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Montreal Alouettes in 2013. After the 2013 season, he returned to college, spending time at Pennsylvania Western University-Edinboro, Robert Morris University, and Westminster College (PA).
In 2020, he was the wide receivers coach for the New York Guardians of the XFL. After five weeks, the XFL folded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
