The Penn State Nittany Lions (6-6, 3-6) visited SHI Stadium on Saturday in the final game of the regular season against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-7, 2-7).
Penn State’s offense had 509 yards (209 yards passing, 300 yards rushing), 23 first downs, and the team was penalized seven times for 54 yards in a 40-36 win over the Scarlet Knights. With the win, Penn State will play in a bowl game.
Penn State quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer completed 17 of 21 passes (81%) for 209 yards, one touchdown, and one carry for -11 yards. Running back Kaytron Allen had 22 carries for 226 yards, one rushing touchdown, and two catches for 12 yards, while Nicholas Singleton had nine carries for 86 yards, two rushing touchdowns, and two catches for 23 yards.
Tight end Andrew Rappleyea led the receivers with four catches for 75 yards and one touchdown, while Trebor Pena made four catches for 36 yards. Kicker Ryan Barker made four field goals (100%) with a long of 31 yards, and made four extra points. The defense made 70 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown.
Rutgers had 533 yards on offense (338 yards passing, 195 yards rushing), 27 first downs, and the team was penalized six times for 42 yards. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis completed 16 of 22 passes (72%) for 338 yards, three touchdowns, 10 carries for -1 yard, and one rushing touchdown.
Running back Antwan Raymond had 29 carries for 189 yards, one rushing touchdown, two catches for 62 yards, and one receiving touchdown. Wide receiver K.J. Duff made five catches for 127 yards and one touchdown, while D.T. Sheffield made two catches for 27 yards and one touchdown. Kicker Jai Patel made four extra points. The defense made 55 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and one pass breakup.
