The Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-signed running back Johnny Augustine, and defensive backs Jake Nitychoruk, Zamari Walton, and Cameron Bergeron on Thursday.
Johnny Augustine is five foot nine and weighs 200 pounds. The 32-year-old from Welland, Ontario, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on February 21, 2025. In 2025, Augustine had 61 carries for 242 yards, 12 catches for 134 yards, one kick return for 28 yards, and one tackle on special teams in 17 games.
The Edmonton Elks signed Augustine as an undrafted free agent on May 15, 2017. The Elks released him on June 18, 2017. Next, he attended training camp for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2018. Then, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on May 16, 2018.
In 2023, he had 45 carries for 267 yards, one catch for six yards, eight tackles on special teams, four kick returns for 50 yards, and eight tackles on special teams in 18 games.
The Blue Bombers re-signed Augustine on January 26, 2024. In 2024, he had 27 carries for 135 yards, two touchdowns, three catches for 39 yards, one tackle, and one tackle on special teams in 18 games, helping the Blue Bombers appear in their fifth straight Grey Cup.
In six seasons with Winnipeg, Augustine had 222 carries for 1,270 yards, three touchdowns, 17 catches for 169 yards, one touchdown, one tackle, 22 tackles on special teams, and one fumble recovery in 93 games. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion.
Collegiately, Augustine played five seasons at the University of Guelph (2013-17) with 483 carries for 2,742 yards, 28 touchdowns, 39 catches for 485 yards, two touchdowns, and 15 tackles (15 solos) in 35 games for the Gryphons.
Jake Nitychoruk is six foot four and weighs 205 pounds. The 22-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the seventh round (57th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. In 2025, Nitychoruk made two tackles and one tackle on special teams in one preseason game. He was placed on the retired list on August 12, 2025.
Collegiately, Nitychoruk played four seasons at the University of Manitoba (2021-24) with 54 tackles (45 solos, 9 assists), one tackle for loss, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one blocked kick, and one punt return for four yards in 27 games for the Bisons.
Zamari Walton is six foot three and weighs 185 pounds. The 26-year-old from Melbourne, Florida, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on January 14, 2025. In 2025, he made seven tackles in two preseason games. Walton appeared in two regular-season games with seven tackles. The Tiger-Cats released him on November 9, 2025. The Tiger-Cats re-signed him to a future contract on November 10, 2025.
The Los Angeles Chargers signed Walton as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, Walton made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) and one pass breakup in three preseason games. The Chargers released him on August 27, 2024.
Collegiately, Walton played five seasons at Georgia Tech (2018-22) with 125 tackles (87 solos, 38 assists), three tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions for six yards, 17 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown in 48 games for the Yellow Jackets. He was named an All-SEC Honorable Mention.
Then, Walton transferred to Ole Miss in 2023 with 38 tackles (23 solos, 15 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, nine pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 13 games for the Rebels. He was named an All-SEC Honorable Mention and participated in the 2024 Hula Bowl.
Cameron Bergeron is six foot and weighs 190 pounds. The 23-year-old from Albany, Georgia, attended the Kansas City Chiefs rookie minicamp in 2025. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Bergeron to the practice squad on September 16, 2025. The Tiger-Cats released him on October 12, 2025. The Tiger-Cats re-signed him on November 20, 2025.
Collegiately, Bergeron played four seasons at Duke (2021-24) with 100 tackles (58 solos, 42 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception for -1 yard, three pass breakups, three force fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 46 games for the Blue Devils. He was an Academic All-ACC selection in 2023 and 2024, the 2024 National Football Foundation Hampshire Society member, and a recipient of the team’s K.D. Kennedy Iron Devil Award in 2024.
