Montreal Alouettes release nine players from the practice squad

The Montreal Alouettes released quarterback E.J. Perry, running back Tiyon Evans, wide receiver Kaseem Ferdinand, offensive lineman Nouredin Nouili, defensive lineman M.J. Sherman and Decarius Hawthorne, linebacker K.D. Davis, kicker Joshua Hutley, and punter Sam Clark from the practice squad on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page. These players automatically became free agents after Montreal’s season ended on Sunday night.

E.J. Perry is six foot two and weighs 210 pounds. The 27-year-old from Andover, Massachusetts, signed with the Memphis Showboats on February 5, 2025. In 2025, he completed 55 of 94 passes (58.5%) for 598 yards, two touchdowns, five interceptions, 18 carries for 71 yards, and one rushing touchdown in six games. The Montreal Alouettes signed Perry to the practice squad on October 7, 2025.

Perry signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2022. In 2022, he completed 25 of 48 passes (52.1%) for 293 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and two carries for 10 yards in three preseason games. The Jaguars released him on March 7, 2023. He also spent time with the Houston Texans.

The Michigan Panthers signed Perry as a free agent on May 30, 2023. He completed 12 of 23 passes (52.2%) for 121 yards, ten carries for 48 yards, and one touchdown in one game for the Panthers in 2023.

In the North Division Finals, Perry completed 23 of 38 passes (60.5%) for 370 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, seven carries for 22 yards, and one touchdown against the Pittsburgh Maulers. After the season, Perry signed with the Houston Texans. He played one preseason game, completing 7 of 12 passes (58.3%) for 58 yards, and two carries for -3 yards.

Perry initially re-signed with the Panthers on December 19, 2023, but was released a day later to sign an NFL contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was placed on the practice squad. He returned to the Panthers on January 21, 2024.

In 2024, Perry completed 55 of 89 passes (61.8%) for 664 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions, 23 carries for 143 yards, and two touchdowns in four games.

He re-signed with the Panthers on August 10, 2024. The Panthers released him on August 20, 2024, and he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 21, 2024. He played one preseason game, completing 2 of 2 passes (100%) for four yards, and three carries for -5 yards.

The Jaguars released him on August 29, 2024. The Michigan Panthers re-signed Perry on November 12, 2024, and released him on February 5, 2025.

Collegiately, Perry played two seasons at Boston College (2017-18), completing 27 of 39 passes (69%) for 277 yards, two touchdowns, 20 carries for 70 yards, and one touchdown in 20 games for the Eagles.

Tiyon Evans is five foot eleven and weighs 210 pounds. The 24-year-old from Hartsville, South Carolina, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on September 16, 2025. In 2025, he had seven carries for 31 yards and two catches for nine yards in one game.

The Los Angeles Rams signed Evans as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He would later have a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers.

The Houston Gamblers signed Evans as a free agent on December 23, 2023, before they were rebranded as the Roughnecks. In 2024, Evans had five carries for five yards and two catches for 34 yards in four games. The Roughnecks released him on May 21, 2024.

The Calgary Stampeders signed Evans on March 19, 2025. In 2025, he had 13 carries for 63 yards and one rushing touchdown in two preseason games. The Stampeders released him on May 31, 2025.

Collegiately, Evans played one season at Hutchinson Community College in 2019 with 61 carries for 538 yards, 44.8 average yards per game, nine touchdowns, four catches for 43 yards, 18 kick returns for 608 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games for the Blue Dragons.

Next, he transferred to Tennessee in 2021 with 81 carries for 525 yards, 75.0 average yards per game, six touchdowns, four catches for 74 yards, and one touchdown in seven games, of which two were starts for the Volunteers.

Then, he transferred to Louisville in 2022 with 83 carries for 525 yards, 65.6 average yards per game, six touchdowns, and six catches for 13 yards in eight games for the Cardinals.

Kaseem Ferdinand is five foot nine and weighs 176 pounds. The 23-year-old from Ottawa, Ontario, went undrafted in the 2025 CFL Draft. The Montreal Alouettes signed Ferdinand on May 13, 2025. In 2025, he made one catch for 14 yards in one preseason game.

The Alouettes released him on May 31, 2025. Montreal re-signed Ferdinand to the practice squad on July 28, 2025. In 2025, he dressed for four games.

Collegiately, Ferdinand played four seasons at Carleton (2021-24) with 147 catches for 1,836 yards (63.3 AVG/G), 18 touchdowns, 13 carries for 80 yards, three kick returns for 64 yards, 61 punt returns for 748 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 29 games for the Ravens. In 2024, he made 42 catches for 645 yards, six touchdowns, and 14 punt returns for 164 yards in eight games.

Nouredin Nouili is six foot four and weighs 315 pounds. The 25-year-old from Frankfurt, Germany, signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2024. The Montreal Alouettes drafted Nouili in the second round (18th pick) of the 2024 CFL Global Draft.

The Alouettes signed Nouili to the practice squad on September 3, 2024. In 2025, Nouili played right guard in two preseason games. He spent the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Nouili played one season at Colorado State in 2019, playing guard in eight games for the Rams. He became the first true freshman to start on the offensive line since Blaine Saipaia in 1996, when he started at guard in the season opener against Colorado.

Then, Nouili transferred to Nebraska (2020-23), playing left guard in 23 games for the Cornhuskers. In 2023, Nouili played a big role in Nebraska, ranking second in the Big Ten in rushing.

M.J. Sherman is six foot three and weighs 245 pounds. The 23-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on May 13, 2025. In 2025, Sherman made two tackles, one tackle for loss, and two tackles on special teams in two preseason games. Sherman would later dress for three regular-season games.

Collegiately, Sherman played three seasons at Georgia (2020-22) with 14 tackles (7 solos, 7 assists), two tackles for loss, and a half sack in 39 games for the Bulldogs. He won two National Championships with the Bulldogs in 2021 and 2022.

Then, he transferred to Nebraska (2023-24) with 45 tackles (22 solos, 23 assists), seven tackles for loss, and five sacks in 25 games for the Cornhuskers. In 2024, he made 29 tackles (15 solos, 14 assists), five tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in 13 games. He was named the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2024.

Decarius Hawthorne is six foot two and weighs 290 pounds. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Hawthorne signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on June 10, 2025. In 2025, he made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games.

The Rams released him on August 24, 2025. The Montreal Alouettes signed Hawthrone to the practice squad on October 29, 2025.

Collegiately, Hawthorne played three seasons at Florida Atlantic University (2021-23) with 46 tackles (18 solos, 28 assists), 13.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks in 32 games for the Owls.

Then, he transferred to the University of South Florida in 2024, where he was named Second Team All-AAC by the coaches and Phil Steele. He made 40 tackles (18 solos, 22 assists), 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two passes defended, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 13 games for the Bulls.

K.D. Davis is six foot and weighs 230 pounds. The 25-year-old from Ennis, Texas, re-signed with the Alouettes on November 26, 2024. In 2025, he made two tackles and one forced fumble in two preseason games. Davis appeared in four regular-season games with three tackles on special teams. The Alouettes released Davis on September 16, 2025. Montreal re-signed Davis to the practice squad on October 28, 2025.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Davis on January 18, 2024. Davis played one preseason game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2024 with one tackle. The Roughriders released Davis on May 22, 2024. The Montreal Alouettes signed Davis on June 18, 2024. In 2024, Davis made one tackle and one tackle on special teams in two games. The Alouettes released him on November 10, 2024.

Collegiately, Davis played five seasons at North Texas (2018-22) with 428 tackles (200 solos, 228 assists), 32 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, one interception, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries in 61 games for the Mean Green.

He was named First Team All-C-USA by the coaches in 2021, a First Team All-C-USA by Phil Steele in 2022, C-USA Linebacker of the Year by PFN in 2022, and the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

Joshua Hutley is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 29-year-old from Geelong, Australia, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the second round (16th pick) of the 2025 CFL Global Draft. In 2025, Hutley had two kickoffs for 69 yards (34.5 AVG) with a long of 55 yards, and made 3 of 4 field goals (75%) in two preseason games. He spent the regular season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Hutley played two seasons at Concord University (2023-24) punting the ball 117 times for 4,894 yards (41.8 AVG), with a long of 83 yards, five touchbacks, 27 fair catches, 37 from inside the 20-yard line, 19 from 50-plus yards, 72 kickoffs for 3,429 yards (47.6 AVG), six touchbacks, made 7 of 11 field goals (63.6%) with a long of 42 yards, nine tackles (9 solos), and two carries for -44 yards in 22 games for the Mountain Lions. He was named First Team All-MEC.

In 2024, Hutley punted the ball 60 times for 2,521 yards (42.0 AVG), with a long of 69 yards, five touchbacks, 13 fair catches, 17 from inside the 20-yard line, nine from 50-plus yards, 32 kickoffs for 1,563 yards (48.8 AVG), two touchbacks, made 6 of 9 field goals (66.7%), with a long of 42 yards, one carry for -44 yards, and three tackles (3 solos) for the Concord Mountain Lions.

Sam Clark is six foot four and weighs 202 pounds. The 28-year-old from Lilyfield, Australia, attended the 2024 CFL Kicking Combine in San Diego in January and was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the first round (9th pick) of the 2024 CFL Global Draft.

Clark played two preseason games, punting the ball six times for 221 yards (36.8 AVG) with a long of 49 yards. He spent the 2024 regular season on the practice squad. The Alouettes released him on November 10, 2024. Montreal re-signed Clark on December 5, 2024.

He attended training camp and was released on May 14, 2025. The Alouettes re-signed him to the practice squad on July 20, 2025.

Collegiately, Clark played three seasons at Sacramento State (2019-21), punting the ball 97 times for 4,062 yards (41.9 AVG) with a long of 73 yards, two touchbacks, 37 fair catches, 32 from inside the 20-yard line, 12 from 50-plus yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 25 games for the Hornets. He was named Third Team All-Big Sky in 2021.

Then, Clark transferred to James Madison in 2022, punting the ball 50 times for 2,161 yards (43.2 AVG) with a long of 65 yards, four touchbacks, 18 fair catches, 16 from inside the 20-yard line, and nine from 50-plus yards in 11 games for the Dukes.
