The Penn State Nittany Lions (3-6, 0-6) hosted the Indiana Hoosiers (10-0, 7-0) from Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Down 20-10 after three quarters, Penn State came back to take a 24-20 lead in the fourth quarter.
However, Indiana drove down the field with quarterback Fernando Mendoza throwing to Omar Cooper Jr. for a seven-yard touchdown that can only be described as the catch of the year. The Nittany Lions lost to the Hoosiers 27-24 for their sixth straight loss.
Penn State’s offense had 336 yards (219 yards passing, 117 yards rushing), 17 first downs, and the team was penalized five times for 37 yards. Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer completed 22 of 31 passes (71%) for 219 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and four carries for -2 yards.
Running back Nicholas Singleton had 10 carries for 71 yards, two rushing touchdowns, three catches for 22 yards, and one touchdown, while Kaytron Allen had 19 carries for 48 yards. Wide receiver Trebor Pena made six catches for 99 yards, while Khalil Dinkins made four catches for 40 yards.
The defense allowed 326 yards (218 yards passing, 108 yards rushing), 20 first downs, with 58 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, and four pass breakups.
Penn State will look to end its six-game losing streak next Saturday against the Michigan State Spartans at 3:30 pm.
