The Calgary Stampeders released running back D.J. Williams, wide receivers Vyshonne Janusas, Daylen Baldwin, and Tommy Wilson, offensive lineman Hunter Steward, defensive linemen Kyle Samson, Devonte O’Malley, Josiah Coatney, and B.J. Thompson, defensive back Jacobe Covington, kicker Jordan Noyes, and punter Fraser Masin from the practice squad on Sunday according to the CFL Transactions page. These players became free agents after Calgary’s season ended on Saturday night.
D.J. Williams is five foot ten and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Lake Placid, Florida, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on September 14, 2025. He spent the season on the practice squad.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Williams as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, he had 14 carries for 43 yards and one catch for six yards in three preseason games. In the regular season, he returned two kickoffs for 54 yards in one game. The Buccaneers released him on August 4, 2025.
Collegiately, Williams played two seasons at Auburn (2019-20) with 122 carries for 599 yards, five touchdowns, and 12 catches for 72 yards in 15 games for the Tigers. Next, he transferred to Florida State in 2021 with 10 carries for 47 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 assist) in six games for the Seminoles.
Then, he transferred to Arizona (2022-23) with 145 carries for 748 yards, eight touchdowns, and six catches for 67 yards in 24 games for the Wildcats.
D.J.’s uncle is four-time Pro Bowler and Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James, who played with the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, and Seattle Seahawks.
Vyshonne Janusas is five foot eleven and weighs 221 pounds. The 24-year-old from Windsor, Ontario, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the fifth round (38th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. In 2025, Janusas made two catches for 14 yards in 10 games.
Collegiately, Janusas played three seasons at the University of Guelph (2022-24) with 71 catches for 1,010 yards, eight touchdowns, three carries for four yards, completing one pass for 32 yards, 30 kick returns for 800 yards, one touchdown, and three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist) in 16 games for the Gryphons. In 2024, he made 37 catches for 546 yards, three touchdowns, 18 kick returns for 506 yards, one touchdown, and two tackles (2 solos) in eight games.
Daylen Baldwin is six foot two and weighs 219 pounds. The 25-year-old from Southfield, Michigan, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on January 23, 2025. They released him on May 14, 2025. He re-signed with the Stampeders on May 21, 2025. In 2025, Baldwin made six catches for 110 yards, one touchdown, and one carry for two yards in two games.
The Cleveland Browns signed Baldwin as an undrafted free agent on August 3, 2022. In 2022, he played one regular-season game with two catches for 25 yards. The Browns released him on November 22, 2023. He also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and the Atlanta Falcons.
The Arizona Cardinals signed Baldwin on August 13, 2024. In 2024, he made one catch for 14 yards in one preseason game. The Cardinals released him on August 26, 2024.
Collegiately, Baldwin played one season at Morgan State (2017-18) with 20 catches for 333 yards and two touchdowns in 22 games for the Bears. Next, he transferred to Jackson State in 2020 with 27 catches for 540 yards and seven touchdowns in six games for the Tigers.
Then, he transferred to Michigan in 2021 with 17 catches for 256 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games for the Wolverines.
Tommy Wilson is five foot eleven and weighs 196 pounds. The 24-year-old from the United Kingdom attended the CFL Combine earlier this year with 18 bench presses, 4.61 in the 40-yard dash, 37.5 in the broad, 6.84 in the cone drills, and 4.02 in the shuttle drills. The Calgary Stampeders signed Wilson to the practice squad on June 1, 2025.
Wilson played one season with the Dresden Monarchs (GFL) with 74 catches for 1,161 yards, 16 touchdowns, eight carries for 32 yards, one punt return for 52 yards, one kick return for 16 yards, and five tackles (3 solos, 2 assists) in 14 games. In 2023, he played for the Potsdam Royals (GFL) with three catches for 31 yards in three games. He signed with the Milano Seamen of the European League of Football on December 9, 2023, but was later released.
He re-signed with the Potsdam Royals in 2024. In 2024, he made 49 catches for 784 yards, nine touchdowns, 13 carries for 233 yards, three touchdowns, three kick returns for 85 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 10 games.
Hunter Steward is six foot six and weighs 315 pounds. The 33-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, signed with the B.C. Lions on July 9, 2025. He spent over a month on the practice squad. The Lions released him on August 12, 2025. The Calgary Stampeders signed Steward to the practice squad on October 29, 2025.
The Ottawa Redblacks signed Steward as a free agent on February 16, 2023. He played 18 games for the Redblacks at left guard in 2022. Before Ottawa, the B.C. Lions drafted Steward in the first round (6th pick) in the 2013 CFL Draft. Steward played 89 games in seven seasons with the Lions.
In 2023, he played 17 games. Ottawa’s offense finished sixth in average points (20.7), tied seventh in offensive touchdowns (33), last in average net offense (318.8), second in average rushing yards (127.6), last in average passing yards (220.4), and last in sacks allowed (71).
The Edmonton Elks signed Steward on April 9, 2024. In 2024, Steward played 16 games. Edmonton’s offense averaged 28 points per game, 390.3 net offense per game, 131.4 rushing yards per game, 271.7 passing yards per game, and 29 sacks allowed, finishing 7-11 in the 2024 season.
Collegiately, Steward played three seasons at Liberty University (2010-12), playing left tackle for the Flames. He spent his first season as a defensive lineman before switching to the offensive line a year later.
Kyle Samson is six foot three and weighs 290 pounds. The 24-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario, was acquired from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on April 29, 2025, for running back Matthew Peterson. In 2025, Samson played two preseason games. He spent over two months on the practice squad.
The Tiger-Cats released him on July 30, 2025. The Calgary Stampeders signed Samson to the practice squad on August 3, 2025. He dressed for one game against the Toronto Argonauts in Week 20.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers drafted Samson in the second round (20th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft. In 2024, Samson played two preseason games. He spent the regular season on the practice squad and was activated for the 111th Grey Cup in Vancouver.
Samson played four seasons at the University of British Columbia (2019, 2021-23) with 76 tackles (47 solos, 29 assists), 19.5 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, one interception for two yards, and four pass breakups in 33 games for the Thunderbirds. In 2023 at UBC, Samson made 27 tackles (17 solos, 10 assists), seven tackles for loss, one sack, and three pass breakups in 11 games for the Thunderbirds.
Samson also played in the Ontario Provincial Football League for the Hamilton Varsity Tiger-Cats with nine tackles (5 solos, 4 assists), one tackle for loss, and a half sack in three games.
Devonte O’Malley is six foot three and weighs 284 pounds. The 23-year-old from Hammond, Indiana, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on September 22, 2025. He spent the season on the practice squad.
The Tennessee Titans signed O’Malley as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2025. The Titans released him on August 3, 2025. The Green Bay Packers signed O’Malley on August 18, 2025. In 2025, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game. The Packers released him on August 26, 2025.
Collegiately, O’Malley played five seasons at Northern Illinois (2020-24) with 127 tackles (67 solos, 60 assists), 29.5 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, one interception for two yards, three pass breakups, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 56 games for the Huskies. He was named a two-time First Team All-MAC by Phil Steele, Second Team All-MAC, and an All-American Honorable Mention by Phil Steele.
Josiah Coatney is six foot four and weighs 325 pounds. The 29-year-old from Douglasville, Georgia, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on March 7, 2024. In 2024, he made nine tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in 11 games. In 2025, Coatney made six tackles in three games.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Coatney as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2020. He would later spend two seasons on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad.
The Arlington Renegades drafted Coatney in the second round (14th pick) in Phase 3 of the 2022 XFL Draft. In 2023, he made 19 tackles (7 solos, 12 assists), five tackles for loss, and a half sack in eight games. In the playoffs, Coatney made one tackle (1 assist) against the D.C. Defenders as they won the XFL Championship 35-26.
Collegiately, Coatney played one season at Holmes Community College in 2015 with 46 tackles (23 solo, 23 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception for 30 yards, and two blocked punts in nine games for the Dogs.
Then, Coatney played three seasons at Ole Miss (2017-19) with 174 tackles (70 solo, 104 assists), 15.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 36 games for the Rebels. In 2020, Coatney was in the Reese’s Senior Bowl and was invited to the NFL Combine.
B.J. Thompson is six foot six and weighs 243 pounds. The 26-year-old from Little Rock, Arkansas, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on September 22, 2025. He spent the season on the practice squad.
The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Thompson in the fifth round (166th pick) of the 2023 NFL Draft. In 2023, he made two tackles (2 solos) in one regular-season game. He was placed on the Non-Football Illness List and did not play the last two seasons. The Chiefs released him on September 12, 2025.
Collegiately, Thompson played two seasons at Baylor (2017-18) with 18 tackles (12 solos, 6 assists), six tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, three blocked kicks, and one interception for six yards in 19 games for the Bears.
Then, he transferred to Stephen F. Austin (2020-22) with 79 tackles (43 solos, 36 assists), 27.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, one interception for three pass breakups, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 33 games for the Lumberjacks.
Jacobe Covington is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. The 24-year-old from Tucson, Arizona, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on September 22, 2025. In 2025, he made one tackle on special teams in one game. He finished the season on the practice squad.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed Covington as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2025. In 2025, he played in three preseason games with no stats. The Chiefs released him on August 26, 2025

Jordan Noyes is five foot eleven and weighs 200 pounds. The 33-year-old from Dartford, Kent, England, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on April 30, 2025. In 2025, Noyes spent the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Noyes played three seasons at Utah (2020-22), making 8 of 12 field goals (66.7%), with a long of 43 yards, 55 extra points, 145 kickoffs for 8,973 yards (61.9 AVG), 57 touchbacks, and one tackle (1 solo) in 30 games for the Utes.
Then, he transferred to Colorado State University (2023-24), making 29 of 39 field goals (74.4%), with a long of 60 yards, 62 extra points made, 16 kickoffs for 1,033 yards (64.6%), and 13 touchbacks in 23 games for the Rams.
In 2024, he made 14 of 20 field goals (70%), with a long of 60 yards, made 33 extra points, one kickoff for 65 yards, and one touchback in 12 games. He was named a two-time Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week in 2023 and 2024.
Fraser Masin is six foot four and weighs 230 pounds. The 24-year-old from Brisbane, Australia, was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the first round (1st pick) of the 2025 CFL Global Draft. In 2025, Masin punted the ball 27 times for 1,242 yards (46.0 AVG) with a long of 77 yards in five games. He finished the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Masin played three seasons at Ole Miss (2022-24) punting the ball 125 times for 5,441 yards (43.5 AVG), with a long of 65 yards, four touchbacks, 40 fair catches, 41 from inside the 20-yard line, 26 from 50-plus yards, one carry for 24 yards, and three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist) in 37 games for the Rebels.
In 2024, he punted the ball 36 times for 1,676 yards (46.6 AVG), with a long of 65 yards, one touchback, 13 fair catches, 16 from inside the 20-yard line, and 14 from 50-plus yards in 12 games for the Ole Miss Rebels. He was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award and named Fourth Team All-SEC by Phil Steele.
Masin graduated from St. Joseph’s Nudgee College in Brisbane, Australia, in 2018. He was selected to the Australian rules football state team in 2017 and 2016, and was a member of the Brisbane Lions Academy in 2018. Besides football, Masin played volleyball and basketball.
