The Montreal Alouettes signed offensive lineman Landon Rice on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Landon Rice is six foot six and weighs 317 pounds. The 37-year-old from Brandon, Manitoba, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on June 24, 2024. In 2024, he dressed for 16 games as a backup offensive lineman when the Argonauts won the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Toronto’s offense averaged 28.6 points per game (1st), 368.7 net offense (3rd), 121.3 rushing yards (2nd), 265.2 passing yards (6th), 49 touchdowns (3rd), and allowed 40 sacks (8th). Rice became a free agent after the 2024 season.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Rice as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played 66 games for the Ticats in four and a half seasons.
The Montreal Alouettes acquired Rice, along with offensive lineman Tony Washington from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for quarterback Johnny Manziel on July 18, 2018. Rice has played 59 games in four seasons with Montreal. He is a two-time CFL East All-Star in 2021 and 2022.
In 2023, Rice played ten games, helping them win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Alouettes did not renew his contract, and he became a free agent on February 13, 2024.
Montreal’s offense finished seventh in offensive points per game (20.6), fourth in touchdowns (43), sixth in average net offensive yards (329.7), fifth in average rushing yards (102.2), sixth in average passing yards (250.0), and eighth in sacks allowed (61).
Collegiately, Rice played four seasons at the University of Manitoba (2007-12), helping the Bisons win the 2007 Vanier Cup. In addition, he participated in the 2008 CIS East-West Bowl.
