Toronto Argonauts release nine players from the practice squad

The Toronto Argonauts released running back Peny Boone, wide receivers Tyler Kahmann and Dorian Anderson, offensive linemen Hampton Ergle and Dre Doiron, defensive lineman Brevin Allen, defensive back Nicolas Toomer, and kicker Alfredo Gachuz Lozada on Saturday according to the CFL Transactions page. These players were on the practice squad and became free agents after the season ended last week.

Peny Boone is six foot one and weighs 232 pounds. The 23-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, attended the Carolina Panthers rookie minicamp in 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Boone to the practice squad on August 5, 2025.

Collegiately, Boone played two seasons at Maryland (2020-21) with 58 carries for 258 yards, two rushing touchdowns, five catches for 23 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 14 games for the Terrapins. Next, he transferred to Toledo (2022-23) with 310 carries for 1,843 yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, 25 catches for 303 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 solo) in 26 games for the Rockets.

He was named First Team All-MAC and Offensive Player of the Year in 2023. That season, he had 194 yards for 1,400 yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, 15 catches for 219 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 solo) in 13 games.

Then, Boone transferred to Louisville. However, he re-entered the transfer portal and went to the University of Central Florida in 2024. In 2024, he had 34 carries for 208 yards, two rushing touchdowns, and one catch for nine yards in six games for the Knights.

Tyler Kahmann is six foot and weighs 207 pounds. The 25-year-old from Haysville, Kansas, signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2025. In 2025, he made two catches for eight yards in three preseason games, making the practice squad. The Colts released him on August 28, 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Kahmann to the practice squad on September 15, 2025.

Collegiately, Kahmann spent six seasons at Emporia State (2019-24) with 281 catches for 3,661 yards, 54 touchdowns, completing one pass for 37 yards, and seven tackles (7 solos) in 47 games for the Hornets. Kahmann was named a two-time First Team All-MIAA, First Team All-American, Second Team All-American by D2CCA, Don Hansen, and the Associated Press, and was named a Team Captain in 2024.

Dorian Anderson is six foot seven and weighs 200 pounds. The 23-year-old from Oakland, Tennessee, attended the Washington Commanders rookie minicamp in 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Anderson on May 22, 2025. In 2025, he made three catches for 41 yards in two preseason games. He would later appear in two regular-season games.

Collegiately, Anderson played two seasons at Shorter University (2021-22), a Division II school in Rome, Georgia, making 51 catches for 759 yards and 10 touchdowns in 18 games for the Hawks. In 2022, Anderson averaged 19.6 catches per game and 61.7 yards per game. He finished the 2022 season making 22 catches for 432 yards and six touchdowns in seven games.

Then, he transferred to Southeastern Missouri State (2023-24) with 65 catches for 880 yards and 10 touchdowns in 19 games for the Redhawks. In 2024, Anderson averaged 14.8 catches per game and 75.4 yards per game.

He finished the 2024 season making 51 catches for 754 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games. Anderson was named Second Team All-American by Stats Perform.

Hampton Ergle is six foot seven and weighs 320 pounds. The 24-year-old from Lexington, South Carolina, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on May 2, 2025. He played in two preseason games and later played in two regular-season games. He finished the season on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Ergle played five seasons at East Carolina University (2020-24) playing center, right tackle, and left tackle in 29 games, of which 26 were starts for the Pirates.

He closed out his collegiate career starting 26 consecutive games. In 2024, East Carolina averaged 32 points per game, 172.4 rushing yards per game, 264 passing yards per game, 436.4 total yards per game, 53 touchdowns, and allowed 21 sacks, finishing 8-5 for the season. The Pirates defeated N.C. State in the 2024 Military Bowl.

Dre Doiron is six foot four and weighs 303 pounds. The 24-year-old from London, Ontario, was drafted by the B.C. Lions in the fifth round (41st pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. In 2025, he played two preseason games. The Lions released him on May 31, 2025.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Doiron on July 14, 2025. He spent over a month on the practice squad. The Roughriders released him on August 20, 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Doiron to the practice squad on August 27, 2025.

Collegiately, Doiron played one season at Buffalo in 2021 playing 12 games, and started 10 at right tackle. In 2021, Buffalo averaged 29.25 points per game, 195.5 rushing yards per game, 214.92 passing yards per game, 410.4 total yards per game, 44 touchdowns, and allowed 16 tackles, finishing 4-8 for the season. He was named Academic All-MAC.

Then, he transferred to Kansas (2022-24), playing 14 games for the Jayhawks. In 2024, Kansas averaged 29.67 points per game, 212.1 rushing yards per game, 208.75 passing yards per game, 420.8 total yards per game, 46 touchdowns, and allowed 10 sacks, finishing 5-7 for the season.

Brevin Allen is six foot four and weighs 265 pounds. The 25-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, signed with the Memphis Showboats on January 14, 2025. He attended training camp and was released on March 20, 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Allen on May 28, 2025. In 2025, he appeared in one regular-season game and finished the season on the practice squad.

The Los Angeles Chargers signed Allen as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. In 2023, Allen made six tackles (6 solos) in three preseason games. He dressed for two regular-season games. The Chargers released him on May 14, 2024.

The Green Bay Packers signed Allen on August 7, 2024. In 2024, he made two tackles (2 solos) and one sack in three preseason games. The Packers released him on August 27, 2024. The New England Patriots signed Allen on August 29, 2024. He spent five days on the practice squad before the Patriots released him on September 3, 2024.

Collegiately, Allen played five years at Campbell University (2018-22) with 148 tackles (71 solos, 77 assists), 38 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 44 games for the Fighting Camels. He was named a two-time Second Team All-Big South, First Team All-Big South, and All-American by AFCA.

Nicolas Toomer is six foot two and weighs 190 pounds. The 25-year-old from Tyrone, Georgia, attended the Philadelphia Eagles rookie minicamp in 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Toomer to the practice squad on September 15, 2025.

Collegiately, Toomer played four seasons at Stanford (2019-22) with 29 tackles (18 solos, 11 assists), one tackle for loss, and five pass breakups in 21 games for the Cardinal. Next, he transferred to Indiana (2023-24) with 26 tackles (22 solos, 4 assists), three tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and three pass breakups in 14 games for the Hoosiers.

Alfredo Gachuz Lozada is five foot ten and weighs 225 pounds. The 29-year-old from Mexico re-signed with the Toronto Argonauts on November 27, 2024. In 2025, he made 3 of 3 field goals, with a long of 43 yards, and five kickoffs for 341 yards (68.2 AVG) in two preseason games. He spent the season on the practice squad.

The Toronto Argonauts drafted Lozada in the first round (9th pick) in the 2023 CFL Global Draft. In 2023, Lozada played one game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, converting 3 of 4 field goals (75%) with a long of 33 yards and making two of three extra points.

Lozada re-signed with the Toronto Argonauts on December 8, 2023. In 2024, Lozada had six kickoffs for 381 yards (63.5 AVG) with a long of 64 yards, made 3 of 3 field goals (100%) with a long of 35 yards, and made one extra point in two preseason games. He spent the 2024 season on the practice squad. The Argonauts released him on November 18, 2024.

Lozada played for the Naucalpan Raptors of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA) and led the league in scoring five times and was named a two-time all-star.
