Chase Briscoe punches his ticket to the Championship Four with a win at Talladega

The NASCAR Cup Series visited Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon in the YellaWood 500. Michael McDowell started the race on the pole, with Chase Briscoe starting second.

Chase Briscoe led 16 laps, including winning the second and the final lap to win his third race of the season in overtime over Todd Gilliland by 0.145 seconds. With the win, Briscoe joins Denny Hamlin in the Championship Four at Phoenix Raceway in a couple of weeks. Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace, and Cole Custer rounded out the top five. Ty Gibbs led four laps and won the first stage.

Carson Hocevar, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell, Zane Smith, and Brad Keselowski completed the top ten. Joey Logano, who led a race-high 35 laps, finished in 16th place. There were 77 lead changes among 27 drivers. There were six cautions for 28 laps. There was one big multicar crash on lap 53 that involved nine drivers, including A.J. Allmendinger and Austin Cindric.

The Cup Series heads to Martinsville Speedway next Sunday at 2 pm on NBC and Peacock.
