Report: Montreal Alouettes re-sign linebacker Caleb Johnson through 2027

The Montreal Alouettes re-signed linebacker Caleb Johnson to a one-year contract extension through the 2027 season on Tuesday according to Dan Ralph. Johnson was already under contract through the 2026 season.

Caleb Johnson is six foot one and weighs 235 pounds. The 27-year-old from Murrieta, California, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on August 5, 2025. He has yet to play a game for the Alouettes this season.

The New York Jets signed Johnson as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023. In 2023, Johnson made 13 tackles (5 solos, 8 assists) in four preseason games. He started the season on the practice squad. The Jets released him on September 12, 2023.

For the rest of the 2023 season, he was on the practice squads of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. Then, Johnson signed with the Cleveland Browns on January 17, 2024. In 2024, he made 14 tackles (8 solos, 6 assists) in three preseason games. The Browns released him on August 26, 2024.

The Arlington Renegades signed Johnson on November 13, 2024. In 2025, he made 19 tackles (13 solos, 6 assists), two tackles for loss, and one sack in ten games. The Renegades released him on August 1, 2025.

Collegiately, Johnson played one season at Fullerton College in 2017 with 41 tackles (29 solos, 12 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup in 13 games for the Hornets. The Hornets won the CCCAA state championship in 2017.

Next, Johnson transferred to Texas in 2019 with one tackle (1 solo) in three games for the Longhorns. Then, he transferred to UCLA (2020-21) with 89 tackles (50 solo, 39 assists), seven tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions for 47 yards, five pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 18 games for the Bruins.

Johnson concluded his collegiate career at Miami (FL) in 2022 with 48 tackles (26 solos, 22 assists), four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 12 games for the Hurricanes.
