
The NASCAR Cup Series visited Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday night in the South Point 400. Denny Hamlin started the race on the pole, with Chase Briscoe starting second.
Denny Hamlin led nine of 267 laps, including the final four laps, to win his sixth race of the season by 1.533 seconds over Kyle Larson, who led a race-high 129 laps. It was Hamlin’s 60th career Cup Series win. With the win, he punches his ticket to the Championship Four at Phoenix in three weeks. Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, and Tyler Reddick rounded out the top five.
Joey Logano, Alex Bowman, Kyle Busch, Ryan Preece, and Brad Keselowski completed the top ten. There were five cautions for 32 laps. Among the drivers involved was William Byron, who led 55 laps before slamming into the back of Ty Dillon. Dillon was still on the racetrack, getting ready to enter pit road.
The other crash happened on lap 246 involving 11 cars, including Shane van Gisbergen, Chase Elliott, and Ty Gibbs. There were 21 lead changes among 11 drivers.
The Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway next Sunday at 2 pm on NBC.
