The D.C. Defenders re-signed defensive lineman Derick Roberson on Monday according to James Larsen.
Derick Roberson is six foot three and weighs 247 pounds. The 29-year-old from San Antonio, Texas, re-signed with the Defenders on October 3, 2024. In 2025, he made 27 tackles (16 solos, 11 assists), nine tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks in nine games.
In the playoffs, Roberson made six tackles (6 solos), two tackles for loss, and two sacks in two games, helping the Defenders win the UFL Championship over the Michigan Panthers. He was named to the All-UFL Team in 2025.
Roberson signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2019. He played three seasons in Tennessee with 26 tackles (16 solos, 10 assists), six tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 16 games. The Houston Texans signed Roberson to the practice squad on September 8, 2022. They released him on November 7, 2022.
The D.C. Defenders signed Roberson on December 20, 2023. In 2024, Roberson made 31 tackles (14 solos, 17 assists), four tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in nine games.
Collegiately, Roberson played one season at Texas in 2015 with one tackle (1 solo), one tackle for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble in four games for the Longhorns. Then, Roberson transferred to Sam Houston State (2016-18) with 123 tackles (67 solos, 56 assists), 32 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, one interception, nine pass breakups, seven forced fumbles, and two blocked kicks in 32 games for the Bearkats.
