The Montreal Alouettes released wide receiver Jose Barbon and offensive lineman Ed Montilus from the practice squad on Saturday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Jose Barbon is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 25-year-old from Havana, Cuba, and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, made three catches for 63 yards in two preseason games. The Alouettes released him on May 31, 2025. Montreal re-signed Barbon to the practice squad on July 28, 2025.
Barbon signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He played three preseason games with one catch for six yards. The Calgary Stampeders signed Barbon on October 9, 2023, and he was placed on the practice squad.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Barbon on January 4, 2024. He made six catches for 45 yards and one touchdown in two preseason games to earn a spot on the practice squad. In 2024, Barbon made three catches for 17 yards in two games. The Alouettes released him on November 10, 2024. Montreal re-signed Barbon on December 2, 2024.
Collegiately, Barbon played four seasons at Temple (2019-22) with 138 catches for 1,608 yards (38.3 AVG/G), four touchdowns, three carries for 34 yards, one kick return for three yards, and four punt returns for four yards in 42 games for the Owls. He earned All-AAC Honorable Mention in 2022.
Ed Montilus is six foot three and weighs 315 pounds. The 26-year-old from Apopka, Florida, re-signed with the Alouettes on November 26, 2024. In 2025, he played left tackle in two preseason games. Montilus spent the season on the practice squad.
Montilus went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a rookie minicamp tryout with the Cleveland Browns in 2024. Montilus signed with the Montreal Alouettes on September 1, 2024, and was placed on the practice squad. The Alouettes released him on September 27, 2024. The Alouettes re-signed Montilus on September 30, 2024, and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Montilus played five seasons at North Carolina (2019-23), playing left guard in 59 games for the Tar Heels. In 2023, North Carolina’s offense ranked 14th in the NCAA in passing yards per game (299.2), 19th in the NCAA in rushing yards per game (192.1), seventh in total yards per game (491.2), and 20th in points per game (34.5).
