The NASCAR Cup Series visited Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon in the Hollywood Casino 400. Chase Briscoe started the race on the pole, with Denny Hamlin starting second.
Denny Hamlin led the majority of the race, leading 159 laps that included sweeping both stages. After Carson Hocevar and Chris Buscher made contact on lap 261, the race went to overtime.
In the first overtime, Christopher Bell and Bubba Wallace were battling for the lead. Behind them, a crash that involved Josh Berry, Zane Smith, Ty Gibbs, and John Hunter Nemechek sent the race to a second overtime.
In the second overtime, Christopher Bell and Bubba Wallace made contact battling for the lead. Denny Hamlin challenged Wallace for the lead. As they headed into Turn 4, Wallace and Hamlin made slight contact, allowing Chase Elliott to pass them for the win.
Elliott beat Hamlin by 0.069 seconds. It was Elliott’s second win of the season and the 21st of his career. Elliott led a total of 24 laps. The win also helped him clinch a spot in the Round of 8 playoffs.
Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, and Bubba Wallace rounded out the top five. Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick, Brad Keselowski, William Byron, and Shane van Gisbergen completed the top ten. There were 20 lead changes among 11 drivers, and nine cautions for 48 laps. Among those involved were Cody Ware, A.J. Allmendinger, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
The Cup Series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval next Sunday at 3 pm on USA Network.
