The Montreal Alouettes (8-7) hosted the Calgary Stampeders (8-6) on Friday night from Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Montreal welcomed back starting quarterback Davis Alexander, who missed several weeks with a hamstring injury. After missing the second half of last week’s game, Vernon Adams Jr. (back) started at quarterback for the Calgary Stampeders.
First Quarter:
Montreal got the ball to start the game on the 41-yard line. Quarterback Davis Alexander completed two passes for 29 yards and rushed for eight yards, while running back Stevie Scott III had two carries for two yards to the 30-yard line. On third down, kicker Jose Maltos missed a 38-yard field goal. Calgary returner Erik Brooks conceded the single point. The Alouettes took a 1-0 lead with 10:59 left.
Later, Alexander completed a 17-yard pass to Cole Spieker to the 51-yard line. Two plays later, Calgary blitzed Alexander, and he was sacked by Bailey Devine-Scott for a seven-yard loss.
However, the refs reviewed the play and penalized Devine-Scott for 15 yards, placing the ball on the 44-yard line. Then, Alexander threw an eight-yard pass to Austin Mack to the 36-yard line. On third down, kicker Jose Maltos made a 44-yard field goal. The Alouettes extended their lead to 4-0 with 5:50 left.
Late in the first quarter, Calgary’s offense moved the ball to the 26-yard line. On the next play, quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. completed a 22-yard pass to Clint Barnes, but an objectionable conduct penalty on Dominique Rhymes backed them up to the 14-yard line.
On the next play, Vernon Adams Jr. threw the ball to the corner of the endzone, where it was caught by Jalen Philpot for the touchdown. The Stampeders took a 7-4 lead to end the first quarter on an eight-play drive for 70 yards.
Calgary’s offense had 86 yards (68 yards passing, 18 yards rushing), and Montreal’s offense had 93 yards (80 yards passing, 13 yards rushing).
Second Quarter:
In the second quarter, Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander threw two passes for 26 yards to the 54-yard line. The offense moved the ball to the 42-yard line. On the next play, Alexander did a pump fake before throwing the ball into the hands of Charleston Rambo for the touchdown. The Alouettes led 11-7 with 12:36 left to cap off a seven-play drive for 82 yards.
Later, Montreal had the ball on the 38-yard line. Running back Stevie Scott III started the drive with a three-yard run, followed by Davis Alexander throwing two passes for 56 yards, including a 46-yarder to Cole Spieker to the 13-yard line.
Alexander would throw another pass to Tyson Philpot for nine yards to the four-yard line. Then, third-string quarterback Shea Patterson, with the help of his teammates, scored the touchdown. It was now 18-7 with 7:25 left to cap off a six-play drive for 72 yards.
Late in the second quarter, Calgary’s offense moved the ball to the 21-yard line. On the next play, Vernon Adams Jr. could not find anyone open. He took off, danced around several Montreal players on his way to scoring the touchdown. Calgary trailed Montreal 18-14 with 42 seconds left to cap off a seven-play drive for 86 yards.
Montreal’s offense quickly moved the ball to the 28-yard line. Montreal had a chance to make it a seven-point game, but kicker Jose Maltos missed a 36-yard field goal wide left. Calgary returner Erik Brooks returned it out of the endzone to prevent giving them a single point. The Alouettes led the Stampeders 18-14 at halftime.

Third Quarter:
In the third quarter, Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander threw four passes for 62 yards, helping the offense to the 20-yard line. On the next play, Alexander’s pass intended for Tyson Philpot was incomplete.
However, a defensive pass interference penalty on Calgary defensive back Godfrey Onyeka placed the ball on the one-yard line. Then, Shea Patterson scored the touchdown. Montreal extended its lead to 25-14 with 8:29 left to cap off an eight-play drive for 93 yards.
Montreal’s defense quickly got the ball back. Calgary’s offense was on the 33-yard line. Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.’s pass intended for Jalen Philpot was intercepted by Tyrice Beverette on the 30-yard line.
Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander’s pass intended for Tyson Philpot was incomplete. Montreal challenged the play for defensive pass interference and won. Shea Patterson came in and scored the touchdown for a 32-14 lead with 6:55 left.
Late in the third quarter, Calgary running back Dedrick Mills had two carries for 29 yards to the 38-yard line. The offense moved the ball to the 24-yard line, but an illegal penalty on offensive lineman Joshua Coker backed them to the 34-yard line. After going two-and-out, kicker Rene Paredes made a 33-yard field goal. The Stampeders trailed the Alouettes 32-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
In the fourth quarter, Calgary center Chris Fortin snapped the ball that went off the fingertips of Vernon Adams Jr. He ran after the ball, which went into the endzone. Adams Jr. avoided getting tackled in the endzone before throwing a 20-yard pass to Dominique Rhymes to the 34-yard line. The offense moved the ball to the 22-yard line. Kicker Rene Paredes made a 29-yard field goal. The Stampeders trailed the Alouettes 32-20 with 10:19 left.
Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander threw two passes for 21 yards, Shea Patterson had two carries for three yards, and running back Stevie Scott III rushed for nine yards to the 37-yard line before the drive stalled. Kicker Jose Maltos made a 45-yard field goal. Montreal led 35-20 with 6:34 left.
Late in the fourth quarter, Montreal kicker Jose Maltos made a 20-yard field goal for a 38-20 lead with 2:42 left. Calgary’s offense moved the ball to the four-yard line.
On the next play, Calgary third-string quarterback Quincy Vaughn tried to score a touchdown, but Montreal defensive back Wesley Sutton stripped the ball out of Vaughn’s hand, and it was recovered by Marc-Antoine Duquoy in the endzone. The Alouettes defeated the Stampeders 38-20 for their third straight win.
