Calgary Stampeders sign QB Logan Bonner, four others to the practice squad

The Calgary Stampeders signed quarterback Logan Bonner, defensive linemen Devonte O’Malley and B.J. Thompson, and defensive backs Jacobe Covington and Lance Robinson to the practice squad on Monday.

Logan Bonner is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 27-year-old from Rowlett, Texas, re-signed with the Calgary Stampeders on February 14, 2025. In 2025, he completed 4 of 5 passes (80%) for 22 yards, one interception, three carries for four yards, and two touchdowns in two preseason games. The Stampeders released him on May 31, 2025.

Bonner attended the Indianapolis Colts rookie mini-camp in 2023. The Calgary Stampeders signed Bonner on May 8, 2023. In 2023, he dressed for nine games but did not record any stats. In 2024, Bonner completed 29 of 50 passes (58%) for 378 yards and five interceptions in eight games.

Collegiately, Bonner played four seasons at Arkansas State (2017-2020) completing 271 of 469 passes (58%) for 3,166 yards, 30 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 66 carries for 62 yards, one touchdown, and two catches for 54 yards in 24 games for the Red Wolves. He was an Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt Conference and Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference in 2020.

Then, Bonner transferred to Utah State (2021-22) completing 325 of 539 passes (60%) for 4,381 yards, 42 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, and 81 carries for 83 yards for the Aggies.

In his final season, Bonner completed 62 of 110 passes for 753 yards, six touchdowns, eight interceptions, and 12 carries for 17 yards in four games. Bonner was named Mountain West Championship Game Offensive MVP in 2021 and Academic All-Mountain West in 2022. 

Devonte O’Malley is six foot three and weighs 284 pounds. The 23-year-old from Hammond, Indiana, signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2025. The Titans released him on August 3, 2025. The Green Bay Packers signed O’Malley on August 18, 2025.

In 2025, he made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game. The Packers released him on August 26, 2025.

Collegiately, O’Malley played five seasons at Northern Illinois (2020-24) with 127 tackles (67 solos, 60 assists), 29.5 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, one interception for two yards, three pass breakups, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 56 games for the Huskies. He was named a two-time First Team All-MAC by Phil Steele, Second Team All-MAC, and an All-American Honorable Mention by Phil Steele.

B.J. Thompson is six foot six and weighs 243 pounds. The 26-year-old from Little Rock, Arkansas, was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round (166th pick) of the 2023 NFL Draft. In 2023, he made two tackles (2 solos) in one regular-season game. He was placed on the Non-Football Illness List and did not play the last two seasons. The Chiefs released him on September 12, 2025.

Collegiately, Thompson played two seasons at Baylor (2017-18) with 18 tackles (12 solos, 6 assists), six tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, three blocked kicks, and one interception for six yards in 19 games for the Bears.

Then, he transferred to Stephen F. Austin (2020-22) with 79 tackles (43 solos, 36 assists), 27.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, one interception for three pass breakups, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 33 games for the Lumberjacks.

Jacobe Covington is six foot two and weighs 200 pounds. The 24-year-old from Tucson, Arizona, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2025. In 2025, he played in three preseason games with no stats. The Chiefs released him on August 26, 2025

Collegiately, Covington played two seasons at Washington (2020-21) with five tackles (4 solos, 1 assist), one tackle for loss, and one sack in 13 games for the Huskies. Then, he transferred to USC (2022-24) with 60 tackles (43 solos, 17 assists), two tackles for loss, one interception for 24 yards, nine pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 29 games for the Trojans.

Lance Robinson is five foot ten and weighs 185 pounds. The 25-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, he made four tackles (3 solos, 1 assist) in two preseason games. An injury sidelined him for the season. In 2025, he made two tackles (2 solos) and two pass breakups in three preseason games. The Bengals released him on August 25, 2025.

Collegiately, Robinson played three seasons at Kansas State (2018-20) with 27 tackles (22 solos, 5 assists), one tackle for loss, and three pass breakups in 18 games for the Wildcats. He was named First Team All-Academic in 2019.

Then, he transferred to Tulane (2021-23) with 84 tackles (63 solos, 21 assists), three tackles for loss, five interceptions for 67 yards, 16 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 35 games for the Mean Green.
