The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-1) kicked off the Big Ten schedule on Friday night against the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1) from SHI Stadium. Rutgers and Iowa were tied 21-21 to start the second half, but Iowa managed to put up 17 points, while Rutgers had seven, and the Hawkeyes defeated the Scarlet Knights 38-28.
Rutgers offense had 400 yards (330 yards passing, 70 yards rushing) and 20 first downs. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis completed 24 of 40 passes (60%) for 330 yards, one interception, 10 carries for four yards, and two rushing touchdowns.
Running back Antwan Raymond had 18 carries for 62 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Ian Strong led the receivers with eight catches for 151 yards, while K.J. Duff made seven catches for 92 yards. The defense made 59 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass breakup.
Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski completed 12 of 18 passes (66%) for 186 yards, 13 carries for 55 yards, and three rushing touchdowns.
The Scarlet Knights visit Minnesota next Saturday at 12 pm on the Big Ten Network.
