Ottawa Redblacks sign RB Elijah Collins and WR Latreal Jones, release one

The Ottawa Redblacks signed running back Elijah Collins and wide receiver Latreal Jones to the practice squad, and released linebacker Woodly Appolon on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Elijah Collins is six foot and weighs 212 pounds. The 25-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on May 5, 2025. In 2025, Collins had eight carries for 25 yards and three catches for 62 yards in two preseason games to earn a spot on the practice squad. Collins spent two months on the practice squad before he was released on July 30, 2025.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed Collins as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, he had 10 carries for 29 yards, four catches for 39 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in three preseason games. The Bengals released him on August 27, 2024.

Collegiately, Collins played five seasons at Michigan State (2018-22) with 353 carries for 1,506 yards, 11 touchdowns, 36 catches for 260 yards, one touchdown, and six tackles (2 solos, 6 assists) in 26 games for the Spartans. He was named Third Team All-Big Ten in 2019.

Then, he transferred to Oklahoma State in 2023 with 30 carries for 142 yards, two touchdowns, two catches for 19 yards, one kick return for 10 yards, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 10 games for the Cowboys.

Latreal Jones is six foot one and weighs 195 pounds. The 26-year-old from Taylorsville, Mississippi, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on December 19, 2024. In 2025, he made seven catches for 47 yards in two preseason games. He spent the season on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him on September 10, 2025.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Jones as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, Jones was targeted twice and made no catches. The Buccaneers released him on August 27, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Jones on December 9, 2024.

Collegiately, Jones played three seasons at Pearl River City Community College (2019-21) making 66 catches for 874 yards, four touchdowns, 21 kick returns for 442 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 23 games for the Wildcats.

Then, Jones transferred to Southern Mississippi University (2022-23) making 16 catches for 229 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery in 15 games for the Golden Eagles. In 2023, Jones made nine catches for 116 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery in six games.

Woodly Appolon is six foot four and weighs 220 pounds. The 29-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, made one tackle on special teams in eight games in 2024. The Elks released him on September 12, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Appolon to the practice squad on September 2, 2025.

Appolon was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the fifth round (40th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. His brother, Wesly, was drafted one sport ahead of him by the Elks in the fifth round (39th pick). Appolon did not sign with the Redblacks and returned to Tuskegee University with 18 tackles in eight games for the Golden Tigers in 2022.

Appolon was acquired by the Edmonton Elks from the Ottawa Redblacks on February 27, 2023, for a 2023 second-round pick (12th overall). In 2023, Appolon made four tackles on special teams in nine games.

Collegiately, Appolon started at Highland Community College in Kansas in 2018 with 17 tackles (10 solo, 7 assists), two tackles for loss, and one pass breakup in eight games for the Scotties. Next, he went to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, in 2019 with 13 tackles (8 solo, 5 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, and one interception in 13 games for the Grizzlies.

Then, Appolon transferred to Northern Illinois in 2020 and played in one game before transferring to Tuskegee University (2021-22) with 88 tackles (49 solo, 39 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 18 games.
