Josef Newgarden wins final race of the season at Nashville Superspeedway

The NTT IndyCar Series concluded the 2025 season on Sunday afternoon from Nashville Superspeedway in the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix from Lebanon, Tennessee. Pato O’Ward started the race on the pole, with David Malukas starting second.

On the opening lap, Christian Rasmussen made it four-wide and lost control of the car, crashing hard into the Turn 2 wall. Later in the race, Alex Palou suffered a flat right front tire and went to pit road. On lap 83, David Malukas and Louis Foster made contact, sending Malukas hard into the wall at Turn 2 for the second caution of the afternoon.

Pato O’Ward dominated the race early. However, on lap 126, his car veered off and made right-side contact with the wall at Turn 2. He told his crew it was a tire failure. O’Ward led 116 laps.

Alexander Rossi was the new leader on lap 131. He led 16 laps before losing the lead to Josef Newgarden on lap 147. He led until lap 186 when he made his last scheduled pit stop. Conor Daly, Colton Herta, Alex Palou, and Scott McLaughlin all led laps. On lap 205, McLaughlin ran wide, allowing Josef Newgarden to take the lead before making light contact with the wall at Turn 2 to bring out the caution.

Josef Newgarden led the final 20 laps to win his first race of the season by 0.5021 seconds over Alex Palou. It was his 32nd career win, which placed him 10th all-time. He is three wins away from tying Al Unser Jr. for ninth all-time. Newgarden led a total of 60 laps.

Scott McLaughlin, Kyffin Simpson, and Conor Daly rounded up the top five. Kyle Kirkwood, Felix Rosenqvist, Santino Ferrucci, Callum Ilott, and Alexander Rossi rounded out the top ten.

There were 20 lead changes among 12 drivers, four cautions for 46 laps, 502 passes, of which 284 were for positions. Lastly, Alex Palou is the 2025 champion, and Louis Foster won Rookie of the Year over Robert Shwartzman.
