Lehigh Valley shut out again in Buffalo

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (66-51, 20-23) played game four on Friday night from Sahlen Field against the Buffalo Bisons (46-68, 16-25). Adonis Medina (0-2, 3.86 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Shane Bieber (Major League Rehab) of Buffalo.

In the bottom of the second inning, Buffalo second baseman Orelvis Martinez hit an RBI double to left field. Yohendrick Pinango scored for a 1-0 lead. It was Martinez’s 16th double of the season.

In the bottom of the third inning, Buffalo designated hitter George Springer hit Medina’s sinker for a solo home run at 352 feet to right field. The Bisons extended their lead to 2-0. It was Springer’s first home run of the season.

Lehigh Valley starter Adonis Medina pitched five innings. He allowed seven hits, two runs, three walks, and six strikeouts throwing 85 pitches, of which 54 were strikes.

At the top of the eighth inning, Lehigh Valley had runners on second and third base with one out. Justin Crawford lined out to first base, and Alec Bohm grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.

Lehigh Valley’s offense struggled in this game as they were shut out by the Bisons 2-0. It is the second time this week that Buffalo shut out Lehigh Valley. They had seven hits, went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position, and left seven men on base. Alec Bohm went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

The bullpen pitched three innings, allowing three walks and two strikeouts. The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Adonis Medina. It was his third loss of the season, and the win went to Buffalo starter Shane Bieber, while C.J. Van Eyk earned his first save of the season.
