Report: Michigan Panthers release linebacker R.J. Moten

The Michigan Panthers released linebacker R.J. Moten on Monday as he is signing with the New England Patriots according to Pro Football Newsroom reporter James Larsen.

R.J. Moten is six foot and weighs 229 pounds. A native of Delran, New Jersey, Moten attended the Philadelphia Eagles rookie minicamp in 2024. The Michigan Panthers signed Moten on May 13, 2025. In 2025, Moten made one tackle (1 solo) in two games. The Panthers released him on June 3, 2025, and re-signed him on July 4, 2025.

Collegiately, Moten played two seasons at Michigan (2021-22) making 65 tackles (48 solos, 17 assists), three tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, six pass breakups, and one kick return for 28 games for the Wolverines. He was named a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Then, he transferred to Florida (2023-24) making 31 tackles (14 solos, 17 assists), four tackles for loss, half a sack, and one pass breakup in 18 games for the Gators. Moten is the son of Ron Moten, who was a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1987.
