The Toronto Argonauts signed running back Jyran Mitchell, offensive lineman Shane Richards, and defensive lineman Ricky Correia to the practice squad on Monday.
Jyran Mitchell is six foot and weighs 205 pounds. The 25-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Toronto Argonauts signed Mitchell on January 22, 2025. In 2025, Mitchell had 11 carries for 118 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 27 yards in two preseason games to earn a spot on the practice squad. The Argonauts released him on June 10, 2025.
Collegiately, Mitchell played two seasons at Northern Illinois (2018-19) with two carries for -2 yards, one kick return for 25 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in nine games for the Huskies.
Next, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky University (2021-22) with one carry for three yards, completing 1of 2 passes (50%) for 42 yards, 38 catches for 428 yards, two touchdowns, one kick return for 14 yards, and seven tackles (7 solos) in 21 games for the Colonels.
Then, he transferred to Butler in 2023 with 199 carries for 1,268 yards, 12 touchdowns, completed 3 of 3 passes (100%) for 23 yards, 23 catches for 202 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games for the Bulldogs. He was named First Team All-Pioneer League, the Pioneer League Offensive Player of the Year, and a finalist for the Walter Peyton Award.
Shane Richards is six foot eight and weighs 325 pounds. The 30-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica, signed with the Edmonton Elks on April 9, 2024. In 2025, he played 16 games.
Edmonton’s offense averaged 28 points per game, 390.3 net offense per game, 131.4 rushing yards per game, 271.7 passing yards per game, and 29 sacks allowed finishing 7-11 in the 2024 season. He became a free agent after the 2024 season.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Richards in the first round (1st pick) of the 2019 CFL Draft. Richards has played 42 games, of which 11 were starts in 42 games.
In 2021, Richards played for the Calgary Colts (CJFL) playing four games making three tackles and one tackle on special teams.
In 2023, he played four games. Toronto’s offense ranked second in offensive average points (29.3), second in offensive touchdowns (56), second in average net offense (377.8), fourth in average rushing yards (113.7), fourth in average passing yards (272.2), and first in the least number of sacks allowed (19). He became a free agent after the 2023 season.
Collegiately, Richards played one season at New Mexico Military in 2014 playing eight games for the Broncos. Next, he transferred to Oklahoma State (2016-18) playing both right guard and right tackle in 13 games for the Cowboys. The Cowboys averaged 205.8 rushing yards in the games that Richards started.
Ricky Correia is six foot four and weighs 340 pounds. The 23-year-old from Fresno, California, attended the New York Giants rookie minicamp in 2025.
Collegiately, Correia played four seasons at California (2021-24) making 105 tackles (36 solos, 69 assists), five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 45 games for the Golden Bears.
In 2024, he made 22 tackles (9 solos, 13 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, and three pass breakups in 11 games. He was named to the Preseason Fourth Team All-Pac 12 by Phil Steele in 2022.
