The NASCAR Cup Series visited Sonoma Raceway on Sunday afternoon for the Toyota / Save Mart 350. Shane van Gisbergen started the race on the pole, with Chase Briscoe starting second.

Shane van Gisbergen dominated the race. He led 97 of 110 laps to score his third win of the season. It was his second consecutive win, third win in five weeks, and the fourth of his Cup Series career.

Gisbergen’s 97 laps also set a new record. He broke Jeff Gordon’s previous record (92 laps) that was set in 2004 in Sonoma. His win on Sunday ties him with Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell to win three races this season.

Ross Chastain won the first stage and Gisbergen won the second stage. The race was caution-free for the first two stages until the final stage. On lap 62, Chris Buescher made contact with Ryan Blaney entering Turn 1, with Blaney going off the track and getting stuck in the dirt. Meanwhile, Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin had separate spins in Turn 2 which led to the caution.

Debris brought out the fourth caution on lap 97 when Cody Ware lost his right rear tire. Ryan Preece made contact with Noah Gragson after Gragson spun at Turn 7 on lap 100, and on lap 105, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. spun in the esses after making contact with Ty Gibbs before slamming the tire barrier. There was a total of six cautions for 17 laps.

Despite all of those cautions, Gisbergen held off Chase Briscoe for the win. Chase Elliott, Michael McDowell, and Christopher Bell rounded out the five. Tyler Reddick, Ty Gibbs, William Byron, Joey Logano, and Kyle Busch rounded out the top ten. There were 12 lead changes among six drivers.

The Cup Series heads to Dover Motor Speedway next Sunday at 2 pm on TNT.
