The Montreal Alouettes released defensive back Don Callis from the practice squad and placed punter Joshua Sloan on the retired list on Friday.
Don Callis is six foot and weighs 184 pounds. The 24-year-old from Los Angeles, California, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on April 14, 2025. In 2025, he made five tackles and one tackle on special teams in two preseason games. He spent over a month on the practice squad.
Callis attended the San Francisco 49ers rookie minicamp in 2024 before signing with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on July 30, 2024. He did not play in the preseason due to an injury and was released on August 13, 2024.
Collegiately, Callis played four seasons at East Central University (Oklahoma) (2019-22) making 77 tackles (47 solos, 30 assists), three tackles for loss, three interceptions for 35 yards, 20 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 27 games for the Tigers.
Then, he transferred to Troy in 2023 making 26 tackles (13 solos, 13 assists), one tackle for loss, one sack, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 14 games for the Trojans.
Joshua Sloan is six foot two and weighs 189 pounds. The 25-year-old from Werribee, Australia, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the first round (7th pick) of the 2025 CFL Global Draft. In 2025, Sloan punted the ball eight times for 361 yards (45.1 AVG) in one preseason game. He spent over a month on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Sloan played four seasons at UTEP (2020-23) punting the ball 191 times for 8,029 yards (42.0 AVG), with a long of 66 yards, 12 touchbacks, 69 fair catches, 58 from inside the 20-yard line, 33 from 50-plus yards, three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist), and one forced fumble in 45 games for the Miners. He was named an All-CUSA Honorable Mention in 2022.
Then, Sloan transferred to Memphis in 2024 punting the ball 47 times for 2,043 yards (43.5 AVG), two touchbacks, 25 fair catches, 19 from inside the 20-yard line, five from 50-plus yards, and one tackle (1 assist) in 13 games for the Tigers.
