
The NASCAR Cup Series visited Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, on Sunday afternoon in The Great American Getaway 400. Denny Hamlin started the race on the pole and Chris Buescher started second. The race was delayed over two hours due to rain.
Denny Hamlin led the opening 32 laps to win the first stage. Hamlin, along with some drivers went to pit road during the caution. Brad Keselowski did not pit and was the new leader leading the field to start the second stage on lap 35.
In the second stage, there were four cautions. On lap 84, Kyle Busch spun while battling with Zane Smith for the 24th position. Christopher Bell, Shane Van Gisbergen, and Ty Dillon were also involved. Before the caution, Chase Briscoe took the lead from Carson Hocevar on lap 81.
Briscoe led the last 16 laps to win the second stage over Josh Berry. It was his first stage win since Watkins Glen in August 2022. During the caution, most of the drivers, including William Byron, A.J. Allmendinger, and Daniel Suarez all went to pit road.
Chase Briscoe continued to lead as the final stage started on lap 101. During the final stage, Shane van Gisbergen spun on lap 126 to bring out the seventh caution. Late in the race, Chase Briscoe was still leading with Denny Hamlin behind him.
On the final lap, Briscoe had enough fuel to get his first win of the season by 0.682 seconds over Hamlin. Briscoe led 72 laps, and Hamlin led 32 laps. It was Briscoe’s third career Cup Series win.
Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher, and Chase Elliott rounded out the top five. John Hunter Nemechek, Kyle Larson, Ryan Preece, Brad Keselowski, and Austin Cindric rounded out the top ten. There were seven cautions for 31 laps and 11 lead changes among nine drivers.
The Cup Series heads to EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta Motor Speedway) next Saturday at 7 pm on TNT.
