
The Repco Supercars Championship concluded the weekend on Sunday with Race 19 at Hidden Valley Raceway for race one of the betr Darwin Triple Crown in Darwin, Northern Territory. For the third race in a row, Broc Feeney started on the pole with Jack Le Brocq starting second.
Feeney beat Le Brocq to keep the lead heading into Turn 1. He opened a 2.2-second lead by lap 14. Ryan Wood and Anton De Pasquale were behind him. The first person to head to pit road was Matt Payne on lap 15. Broc Feeney went to pit road on lap 30 and Matt Payne was the new leader with Feeney second.
Feeney past Payne to take back first place two laps later. Once the first round of pit stops was complete, the running order was Broc Feeney, Matt Payne, Jack Le Brocq, Ryan Wood, and Andre Heimgartner.
Later in the race, the second round of pit stops began on lap 41 with Anton De Pasquale the first enter. Matt Payne went in six laps later, and Broc Feeney headed to pit road with nine laps to go. Feeney kept the lead with Kai Allen taking second place away from Matt Payne.
With three laps to go, Cam Waters in the No. 6 Monster Mustang’s left rear fell off and he drove the car with three wheels intact. A replay showed him spinning out in the back second and he limped the car to pit road. Waters finished in 24th place two laps down.
Broc Feeney went on to complete the sweep, winning Race 19 by 7.554 seconds over Kai Allen for his eighth win of the season, and fifth win in a row. Feeney became the first driver to win all three races of the Triple Crown. The only drivers who came close were Scott McLaughlin (two races) and Jaime Wincup (round points).
Matt Payne, Jack Le Brocq, and Will Brown rounded out the top five. Andre Heimgartner, Anton De Pasquale, Ryan Wood, Cameron Hill, and Bryce Fullwood rounded out the top ten.
The Repco Supercars resume the season next month at the NTI Townsville 500 on July 11-13.
