The NTT IndyCar Series visited Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin, on Sunday afternoon in the XPEL Grand Prix of Road America. Louis Foster started the race on the pole with Alex Palou starting in second.

Shortly after the race started, David Malukas got spun around by Jacob Abel on the opening at Turn 1 for the race’s first caution. Foster led the opening three laps before losing the lead on the restart to Scott McLaughlin on the fourth lap. Not long after the restart, Robert Shwartzman lost control of the car in Turn 12 to bring out the second caution.

McLaughlin was still the leader when the race restarted on the seventh lap. The restart lasted three laps before Sting Ray Robb tried to avoid a car ahead of him, who hit the brakes and Robb’s car smacked the wall hard before hitting the tire wall at Turn 5. It was the third caution of the race.

Scott Dixon and Kyffin Simpson stayed out while the others went to pit road. Josef Newgarden beat McLaughlin off pit road. Dixon led eight laps before making a pit stop on lap 21. Kyffin Simpson was the new leader on lap 22 when the fourth caution came out for Conor Daly going into the gravel after trying to pass David Malukas at Turn 5.

Simpson went to pit road and Christian Lundgaard was the new leader. Lundgaard led four laps and Kyle Kirkwood led a lap before Scott Dixon got the lead back. On lap 30, Josef Newgarden lost control of the car entering Turn 14 for the fifth caution of the afternoon.

Dixon led 10 laps before making another pit stop and Alex Palou was the new leader. Palou led three laps, Felix Rosenqvist led two laps, and David Malukas led two laps before Dixon went back to the lead. With four laps to go, Dixon was low on fuel and he went to pit road. Alex Palou had enough fuel in the car to lead the final three laps to win his sixth race of the season by 2.1725 over Felix Rosenqvist. The last driver to win six races in a season was Will Power in 2011.

Through nine races of the season, Palou (6 wins) and Kyle Kirkwood (3 wins) are the only drivers to win a race. That has not happened since 1980 when Bobby Unser won four races and Johnny Rutherford won five races.

Santino Ferrucci, Kyle Kirkwood, and Marcus Armstrong rounded out the top five. There were five cautions for 12 laps and 11 lead changes among nine drivers. The NTT IndyCar Series resumes the season at Mid-Ohio on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 1 pm on Fox.
