Lehigh Valley shut out by Rochester, IL East Division lead down to one

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (46-25) and the Rochester Red Wings (24-45) played game two on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park. Gabe Mosser (2-1, 5.02 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Adrian Sampson (1-2, 5.97 ERA) of Rochester.

There was a lineup change for Lehigh Valley before this game as Gabriel Rincones Jr. was supposed to be the designated hitter but was scratched and Erick Brito was the new designated hitter.

At the top of the first inning, Rochester first baseman Yohandy Morales grounded toward first baseman Keaton Anthony scoring Robert Hassell III for a 1-0 lead. At the top of the second inning, Nasim Nuñez, and Robert Hassell III hit RBI singles extending Rochester’s lead to 3-0.

Moving to the top of the ninth inning, Rochester first baseman Yohandy Morales hit an RBI double to center field scoring Drew Millas for a 4-0 lead. It was his third double of the season.

Lehigh Valley had five hits in this game. They left seven men on base and 0-9 with runners in scoring position as they were shut out by Rochester 4-0. The IronPigs are 5-10 in their last 15 games and their lead in the International League East First Half standings is down to one after the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp beat Syracuse 5-3 for their eighth straight win.

Lehigh Valley starter Gabe Mosser lost his second game of the season. He pitched four innings, allowing six hits, three runs, three walks, and five strikeouts throwing 78 pitches, of which 47 were strikes. The win went to Rochester starter Adrian Sampson.
