The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (47-23) continued their homestand on Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park against the Rochester Red Wings (22-46) in the final week of the first half of the season. Alan Rangel (4-1, 5.20 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Andrew Alvarez (0-6, 4.87 ERA) of Rochester.
In the bottom of the first inning, Lehigh Valley first baseman Keaton Anthony hit an RBI double to right field scoring Oscar Mercado for a 1-0 lead. It was Anthony’s third double of the season.
At the top of the second inning, Rochester center fielder Andrew Pinckney hit into a fielder’s choice to shortstop Rodolfo Castro. A throwing error by Castro allowed Drew Millas to score and the game was tied 1-1.
Moving to the top of the seventh inning, Rochester right fielder Nick Schnell hit Rangel’s four-seam fastball for a solo home run at 385 feet to left-center field to take a 2-1 lead. It was his fourth home run of the season. Later, Nasim Nuñez hit an RBI single to left field scoring Andrew Pinckney extending their lead to 3-1.
Lehigh Valley had four hits in this game. They went one for eight with runners in scoring position as they lose to the Red Wings by the final score of 3-1. The Red Wings snapped a 12-game losing streak.
Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel lost his second game of the season. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowing six hits, three runs, one walk, and five strikeouts throwing 94 pitches, of which 68 were strikes. The win went to Joan Adon and Konnor Pilkington earned the save.
