The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (43-18) and the Charlotte Knights (29-32) played game four on Friday night from Truist Field. Kyle Tyler (5-2, 3.72 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Yoendrys Gómez (0-0, 2.45 ERA) of Charlotte.
At the top of the first inning, Lehigh Valley center fielder Cal Stevenson hit Gomez’s four-seam fastball for a solo home run at 402 feet to center field for a 1-0 lead. It was Stevenson’s third home run of the season. Stevenson finished the night going 2 for 3 with a single, a home run, a walk, and two RBIs.
In the bottom of the third inning, Charlotte catcher Juan Gonzalez hit an RBI double to center field scoring Jacob Amaya, and the game was tied 1-1. At the top of the fourth inning, Lehigh Valley center fielder Cal Stevenson brought home Rafael Lantigua with a sacrifice fly to center field for a 2-1 lead.
Charlotte blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bryan Ramos and Jacob Amaya hit two two-run home runs for a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Charlotte right fielder Zach DeLoach hit an RBI single to right field scoring Corey Julks for a 6-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with one out and an opportunity to get back into the game. However, Gabriel Rincones Jr. and Erick Brito both lined out leaving the bases loaded to end the inning.
Charlotte continued to pour it on. Juan Gonzalez was hit by Lehigh Valley relief pitcher Koyo Aoyagi making it 7-2. Brooks Baldwin, Corey Julks, Andrew Vaughn, Tristan Gray, Zach DeLoach, Dru Baker, and Jacob Amaya all scored runs making it 14-2.
Lehigh Valley had seven hits in this game as they lost to the Knights by the final score of 14-2. Lehigh Valley starter Kyle Tyler lost his third game of the season. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, three walks, and six strikeouts throwing 92 pitches, of which h56 were strikes. The win went to Charlotte relief pitcher Jairo Iriarte.
