
The St. Louis Battlehawks signed defensive end Shaka Toney and linebacker Mac McCain III on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.
Shaka Toney is six foot two and weighs 238 pounds. The 27-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was drafted by the Washington Football Team in the seventh round (246th pick) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played two seasons in Washington making 16 tackles (6 solos, 10 assists), two tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in 26 games.
Washington released him on April 22, 2024. The Dallas Cowboys signed Toney on August 2, 2024. In 2024, he made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in one preseason game but suffered a groin injury and was released on August 22, 2024.
Collegiately, Toney played four seasons at Penn State (2017-20) making 112 tackles (59 solos, 57 assists), 30.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, four pass breakups, and five forced fumbles in 47 games for the Nittany Lions. He was named Second Team All-Big Ten in 2019 and First Team All-Big Ten in 2020.
Mac McCain III is six foot and weighs 185 pounds. The 27-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, San Antonio Brahmas, and the New Orleans Saints.
McCain III made 12 tackles (10 solos, 2 assists), and one pass breakup in six preseason games. He played two regular season games for the Eagles in 2021 making three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists).
Collegiately, McCain III played three seasons at North Carolina A&T (2017-19) making 113 tackles (66 solos, 26 assists), eight interceptions, three touchdowns, 28 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 29 games for the Aggies. He was named a two-time First Team All-MEAC, Second Team All-MEAC, and All-American from Hero Sports, AP, Phil Steele, and BoxToRow.
