
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (42-17) played game two on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Knights (28-31) from Truist Field. Andrew Painter (2-0, 2.65 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Jesse Scholtens (0-0, 6.11 ERA) of Charlotte.
In the first couple of innings, a home run by Brooks Baldwin and a two-run home run by Andre Lipcius put Charlotte up 3-0. At the top of the third inning, Lehigh Valley second baseman Erick Brito hit an RBI single to center field scoring Cal Stevenson cutting Charlotte’s lead to 3-1.
Later, a sacrifice fly by Lehigh Valley third baseman Otto Kemp scored Rodolfo Castro and it was now 3-2. Then, Lehigh Valley catcher Garrett Stubbs hit an RBI double to center field scoring Justin Crawford and the game was tied 3-3.
In the bottom of the third inning with two outs, Charlotte first baseman Andre Lipcius hit an RBI single to left field scoring Andrew Vaughn for a 4-3 lead. Corey Julks tried to score too but Cal Stevenson’s throw to Garrett Stubbs got him out that ended the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly by Charlotte third baseman Tristan Gray scored Kyle Teel for a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, Charlotte catcher Kyle Teel hit an RBI single to right field scoring Zach DeLoach for a 6-3 lead.
Charlotte designated hitter Andrew Vaughn tried to run to third base but Lehigh Valley right fielder Gabriel Rincones Jr.’s throw to Otto Kemp got him out to end the inning.
Charlotte continued to add runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with former IronPig Nick Maton’s RBI double and an Andre Lipcius RBI single making it 8-3. The IronPigs had seven hits in this game as their five-game winning streak came to an end with an 8-3 loss to the Charlotte Knights.
Lehigh Valley starter Andrew Painter lost his first game of the season. He pitched four innings, allowing six hits, four runs, four walks, and five strikeouts throwing 85 pitches, of which 59 were strikes. The win went to Charlotte starter Jesse Scholtens for his first win of the season.
