
The Toronto Argonauts released quarterback Cameron Dukes, running back Ka’Deem Carey, defensive back Ciante Evans, and 14 other players as part of the CFL’s final cuts on Saturday.
Cameron Dukes is six foot and weighs 210 pounds. The 26-year-old from Shepherdsville, Kentucky, re-signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 11, 2025. In 2025, he completed 8 of 17 passes (47.1%) for 84 yards and three carries for 10 yards in two preseason games.
Dukes played for the Vegas Knight Hawks (IFL) in 2022 completing 99 of 171 passes (57.9%) for 1,103 yards, 27 touchdowns, and five interceptions in eight games. The Knight Hawks finished fifth in the Western Conference with a 6-10 record.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Dukes on March 9, 2023. In 2023, he completed 63 of 96 passes (66%) for 760 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions, 35 carries for 126 yards, and eight touchdowns in 18 games. In 2024, he completed 143 of 199 passes (71.8%) for 1,444 yards, seven touchdowns, six interceptions, 57 carries for 321 yards, and four touchdowns in 18 games.
Collegiately, Dukes played five seasons at Lindsey Wilson College (2017-21) completing 769 of 1,227 passes (62.7%) for 10, 439 yards, 114 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 436 carries for 1,316 yards, and three touchdowns in 49 games, of which 45 were starts for the Blue Raiders.
He finished his collegiate career winning the 2020 National Championship, a three-time All-American, three-time conference offensive player of the year, and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which goes to the top football student-athlete in the nation.
Ka’Deem Carey is five foot nine and weighs 206 pounds. The 32-year-old from Tucson, Arizona, re-signed with the Argonauts on February 11, 2025. In 2025, he had three carries for 14 yards in one preseason game.
The Chicago Bears drafted Carey in the fourth round (117th pick) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Chicago with 111 carries for 443 yards, two touchdowns, 13 catches for 131 yards, and one touchdown in 37 games.
The Calgary Stampeders signed Carey on October 3, 2018. He was on the practice squad when the Stampeders won the Grey Cup over the Ottawa Redblacks. Carey played four seasons in Calgary with 492 carries for 2,855 yards, 19 touchdowns, 127 catches for 732 yards, one touchdown, and three tackles in 44 games.
In 2023, Carey had 89 carries for 476 yards, 29 catches for 156 yards, and one tackle in nine games. Carey is a two-time CFL West All-Star (2021-22) and a CFL All-Star in 2022.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Carey on February 14, 2024. In 2024, Carey had 191 carries for 1,060 yards, seven touchdowns, 37 catches for 356 yards, one touchdown, and two tackles in 18 games.
In the 111th Grey Cup, Carey had 15 carries for 79 yards, one touchdown, and three catches for 10 yards helping the Argonauts beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41-24 to win their second Grey Cup title in three seasons.
Collegiately, Carey played three seasons at Arizona (2011-13) with 743 carries for 4,239 yards, 48 touchdowns, 77 catches for 679 yards, and four touchdowns in 36 games for the Wildcats. He was a two-time First Team All-Pac 12 (2012-13), two-time All-American (2012-13), and the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2013.
Ciante Evans is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. The 32-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 12, 2025. In 2025, Evans played two preseason games recording no stats.
Evans attended the Chicago Bears rookie minicamp in 2014. Next, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders in 2015 playing four seasons making 127 tackles, one tackle on special teams, nine interceptions, 14 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 48 games. In 2018, he helped the Stampeders beat the Ottawa Redblacks in the 106th Grey Cup.
In 2019, Evans played for the Salt Lake Stallions (AAF) making four tackles in four games before the league ceased operations after eight weeks into the regular season. Then, Evans signed with the Montreal Alouettes making 29 tackles and three interceptions for 61 yards in 13 games.
After the CFL season was canceled in 2020, Evans signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on February 9, 2021. He played two seasons in Hamilton with 69 tackles, two interceptions for 22 yards, and one punt return in 26 games.
The Montreal Alouettes signed Evans as a free agent on February 17, 2023. In 2023, he made 25 tackles and three interceptions in 11 games helping them win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The B.C. Lions signed Evans on February 14, 2024. In 2024, 31 tackles and two interceptions in 13 games.
Collegiately, Evans played four seasons at Nebraska (2010-13) making 143 tackles (92 solos, 51 assists), 15 tackles for loss, five sacks, five interceptions for 56 yards, two touchdowns, ten pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 48 games for the Cornhuskers. He is a two-time First-Team All-Big 10.
The following players were also released. They are running backs Kevin Brown and Joey Zorn, wide receivers Dontay Demus, Shane Hooks, and Marquis McClain, offensive linemen Jas Khaira and Justin Redd, defensive linemen Baptiste Pollier and Deshawn McCarthy, linebackers Charles Brown Jr. and Ryan Collins, defensive backs Bryce Hampton, Jai Nunn-Liddell, and Will Sunderland, and long snapper Simon Chaves.
The following players were added to the practice squad. They are running back Jyran Mitchell, wide receivers Dorian Anderson and Calvin Turner, offensive linemen Anim Dankwah and Hampton Ergle, defensive linemen Da’Marcus Johnson, Brevin Allen, and Greg Reaves, linebacker Stephen Smith, defensive back Delonte Hood, and kicker Alfredo Gachuz-Lozada.
The following players were placed on the suspended list. They are defensive lineman Andre Carter and linebacker Jarrett Martin. Defensive back Istvan Assibo-Dadzie was placed on the retired list as he is returning to school.
