The NTT IndyCar Series visited the streets of Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday afternoon for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. Colton Herta started the race on the pole with David Malukas starting second.

Colton Herta led the opening 11 laps before making a pit stop and Scott McLaughlin was the new leader on lap 12. Two laps later, Felix Rosenqvist spun after contact with Marcus Armstrong at Turn 8 for the first caution of the race. Both drivers were able to continue the race.

Christian Rasmussen was the new leader when the race restarted on lap 17. Two laps into the restart, Devlin DeFrancesco lost a wheel at Turn 4 which brought out the second caution. Rasmussen continued to lead until lap 36 before making a pit stop.

Louis Foster, Scott Dixon, Pato O’Ward, Felix Rosenqvist, and Kyle Kirkwood all led several laps. Kirkwood led 11 laps until Callum Ilott had a loose wheel and made contact with the wall at Turn 1 for the third caution of the race.

Kirkwood led an additional three laps before making a pit stop, and Will Power led a lap before making his pit stop. Santino Ferrucci was the new leader when the race restarted on lap 72. However, the restart did not last long as David Malukas ran into Alex Palou sending him into the wall at Turn 1. Malukas was issued a stop-and-go penalty.

On lap 79, Kyle Kirkwood passed Ferrucci for the lead. During the green flag, Louis Foster had a suspension failure and ran into Felix Rosenqvist at Turn 3. Kirkwood, who had a damaged wing, led the final 21 laps to win the race by 3.5931 over Santino Ferrucci. It was his second win of the season and the fourth of his career.

The rest of the top five finishers were Colton Herta third, Will Power fourth, and Kyffin Simpson fifth. There were 261 total passes, of which 181 were for positions. There were five cautions for 19 laps and 12 lead changes among ten drivers.

The NTT IndyCar Series heads to World Wide Technology Raceway on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 8 pm on Fox. Purchase tickets for all IndyCar races today at StubHub.
