
The Montreal Alouettes released veteran running back Walter Fletcher on Saturday, along with 19 other players to get the roster size down to 45 players.
Walter Fletcher is five foot nine and weighs 202 pounds. The 28-year-old from Columbia, Maryland, re-signed with the Montreal Alouettes on December 31, 2024. In 2025, he had two carries for four yards in one preseason game.
Fletcher went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. He signed with the Edmonton Elks on December 31, 2020. In 2021, Fletcher had 67 carries for 302 yards (4.5 AVG), 22 catches for 177 yards (8.0 AVG), and seven kick returns for 122 yards (17.4 AVG) in 11 games.
The Montreal Alouettes acquired him from the Edmonton Elks on June 14, 2022. In 2022, Fletcher had 85 carries for 486 yards (5.7 AVG), one touchdown, 29 catches for 353 yards (12.2 AVG), and one touchdown in 14 games.
In 2023, he had 58 carries for 266 yards (4.6 AVG), and 23 catches for 176 yards (7.7 AVG) in seven games helping Montreal win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2024, he had 141 carries for 764 yards (5.4 AVG), four touchdowns, 71 catches for 682 yards (9.6 AVG), and three touchdowns in 17 games.
Collegiately, Fletcher played three seasons at Edinboro University (2016-18) in Pennsylvania with 632 carries for 3,913 yards, 41 touchdowns, 93 catches for 692 yards, and six touchdowns in 32 games for the Fighting Scots.
He was a 2016 All-PSAC West Second Team, a two-time (2017, 2018) All-PSAC West First Team, a 2017 AP Division II All-American (Second Team), and a 2018 PSAC Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Year.
Then, Fletcher transferred to Ball State in 2019 with 132 carries for 726 yards, five touchdowns, 26 catches for 306 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games for the Cardinals.
The other players that were released are quarterback Jonathan Senecal, running back Tanner Nelmes, wide receivers Tyjon Lindsey, Phil Lutz, Jose Barbon, and Kaseem Ferdinand, offensive linemen Josh Donovan, Hunter Poncius, and Vincent Munlin Jr., defensive linemen Latrell Jean and Willington Previlon, linebackers Tre Thomas, Christian McFarland, and Trezmen Marshall, defensive backs Jashon Prophete, Darion McKenzie, Bryce Cosby, and DeShawn Gaddie Jr., and kicker Philippe Boyer.
Jonathan Senecal is six foot and weighs 201 pounds. The 25-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the seventh round (62nd pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. In 2025, Senecal completed 4 of 11 passes (36%) for 31 yards, and one carry for 12 yards in two preseason games.
Collegiately, Senecal began at UConn in 2020 but the Huskies canceled their season due to COVID-19. Then, Senecal transferred to the University of Montreal (2021-24). In 2024, Senecal completed 181 of 253 passes (71.5%) for 2,320 yards, 15 touchdowns, six interceptions, 27 carries for 278 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games. He helped Montreal win the 2023 Vanier Cup.
Bryce Cosby is five foot ten and weighs 185 pounds. The 26-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 30, 2024. In 2024, he made 55 tackles, 12 tackles on special teams, one sack, and two interceptions in 18 games.
The Las Vegas Raiders signed Cosby as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. In 2022, he made 11 tackles (7 solos, 4 assists), and one pass breakup in four preseason games. In 2023, he made five tackles (4 solos, 1 assist) in three preseason games. The Raiders released him on August 27, 2023.
Collegiately, Cosby played five seasons at Ball State (2017-21) making 391 tackles (228 solos, 163 assists), 22.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, ten interceptions, 26 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 57 games for the Cardinals. He was named First Team All-MAC and the Arizona Bowl Defensive Player of the Game in 2020.
The Alouettes added 13 players to the practice squad. They are wide receivers Jalen Wayne and Daniel Oladejo, offensive linemen Nouredin Nouili, Des Holmes, and Ed Montilus, defensive linemen M.J. Sherman and Kori Roberson Jr., linebacker K.D. Davis, defensive backs Don Callis, Robert Kennedy, and Vincent Delisle, kicker Joshua Hutley, and punter Joshua Sloan.
Montreal placed four draft picks on the retired list as they are returning to school. They are wide receiver Isaac Gaillardetz, defensive lineman Gabriel Maisonneuve, and linebackers Riley MacLeod and Gabriel Lessard.
