
The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed offensive lineman Jack Sherwin and re-signed punter Joe Couch, and released kicker Brian Garrity on Monday.
Jack Sherwin is six foot three and weighs 298 pounds. The 23-year-old from Traverse City, Michigan, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Collegiately, Sherwin played six seasons at Western Michigan (2019-24). He began his collegiate career as a tight end/special teams player before moving to the offensive line full-time in 2022. Sherwin played guard and tackle in 47 games for the Broncos.
In 2024, Western Michigan averaged 28.92 points per game, 183.2 rushing yards per game, 186.85 passing yards per game, 370 total yards per game, 48 touchdowns, and allowed 23 sacks finishing 6-7 for the season. Sherwin was part of an offensive line that helped running back Jaden Nixon rushed for 70.85 yards per game. He was named an Academic All-MAC in 2023.
Joe Couch is five foot eleven and weighs 210 pounds. The 30-year-old from Torquay, Victoria, Australia, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on May 7, 2024.
In 2024, he punted the ball six times for 257 yards (42.8 AVG) with a long of 48 yards in two preseason games. He spent the 2024 season on the practice squad. The Roughriders re-signed him on May 6, 2025. They released him on March 14, 2025.
Couch played Australian rules football for Geelong College and trained with Prokick Australia before making his way to the United States.
Collegiately, Couch played three seasons at Ouachita Baptist University (2021-23) punting the ball 76 times for 3,397 yards (44.7 AVG) with a long of 63 yards, 10 touchbacks, 13 fair catches, 30 from inside the 20-yard line, 26 from 50-plus yards, 13 kickoffs for 751 yards (57.8 AVG), three touchbacks, and one carry for -9 yards in 29 games for the Tigers.
In 2022, Couch was named First Team All-Great American Conference, First Team D2CCA All-Region, and Second Team D2CAA All-American after punting the ball 32 times for 1,387 yards (43.3 AVG) with a long of 60 yards, two touchbacks, six fair catches, 15 from inside the 20-yards line, and 8 from 50-plus yards in 12 games.
The following year, Couch punted the ball 29 times for 1,297 yards (44.7 AVG) with a long of 63 yards, four touchbacks, five fair catches, 11 from inside the 20-yard line, and 10 from 50-plus yards in 11 games. Couch was named Second Team All-Great American Conference in 2023 and earned an invite to the College Gridiron Showcase. Couch majored in Kinesiology with a minor in nutrition and dietetics.
Brian Garrity is five foot seven and weighs 174 pounds. A native of London, Ontario, Garrity went undrafted in the 2025 CFL Draft. The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Garrity on May 17, 2025. In 2025, Garrity made 1 of 2 field goals (50%) with a long of 50 yards in one preseason game.
Collegiately, Garrity played five seasons at the University of Western Ontario (2019, 2021-24) made 98 of 121 field goals (81%), with a long of 49 yards, 205 extra points, 241 kickoffs for 13,528 yards (56.1 AVG), three touchbacks, punting the ball 28 times for 1,080 yards (38.6 AVG), with a long of 55 yards, four from inside the 20-yard line, three from 50-plus yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 44 games for the Mustangs.
In 2024, he made 25 of 30 field goals (83.3%), with a long of 44 yards, 57 extra points, 59 kickoffs for 3,463 yards (58.7 AVG), and two touchbacks in 11 games.
Garrity earned the Western athletic-of-the-week honors after making four field goals, including two 48-yarders, helping the Mustangs beat the Windsor Lancers 21-10. He was named First Team OUA All-Star in 2024.
