
The Memphis Showboats signed running back Jada Byers on Monday according to NFL Network reporter Steve Wyche.
Jada Byers is five foot seven and weighs 185 pounds. A native of Bridgeton, New Jersey, Byers had 329 carries for 2,061 yards, 27 touchdowns, 28 catches for 154 yards, and 15 punt returns for 180 yards in 14 games for the Virginia Union Panthers. He was named the CIAA Offensive Player of the Year and the Black College Football Hall of Fame’s Player of the Year. His 2,061 rushing yards set a single-season record.
Collegiately, Byers played four seasons at Virginia Union (2021-24) with 967 carries for 5,978 yards, 71 touchdowns, 70 catches for 482 yards, four touchdowns, 18 kick returns for 410 yards, and 20 punt returns for 234 yards in 44 games for the Panthers. He was named First Team All-American by HBCU and AFCA, a three-time First Team All-CIAA, three-time CIAA Offensive Player of the Year, winner of the Deacon Jones Trophy, and the Willie Lanier Award two times.
