
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series visited North Wilkesboro Speedway on Saturday afternoon in the Window World 250. Corey Heim started the race on the pole with Kyle Busch starting second.
In Stage 1, Corey Heim led the 50 laps when Tyler Tomassi’s truck stalled in Turn 2 to bring out the first caution of the race. Heim, along with several other drivers went to pit road, and Giovanni Ruggiero was the new leader for the restart on lap 55. Ruggiero led 22 laps to win the first stage beating Corey Heim and Stewart Friesen.
Ruggiero, along with several other drivers made pit stops during the caution with Corey Heim as the new leader. Heim and Layne Riggs were on the front row to start the second stage on lap 81. However, Riggs got loose, pushing Heim up the racetrack and Grant Enfinger took the lead.
In the back, Chandler Smith worked his way up the track taking third place away from Tyler Ankrum on lap 120. Late in the second stage, Corey Heim and Grant Enfinger were battling for the lead when Conner Jones suffered a flat right front tire before hitting the wall at Turn 2, which brought out the caution and ended the second stage, which was won by Grant Enfinger.
Grant Enfinger and Corey Heim were on the front row to start the final stage on lap 150. Chandler Smith bumped Enfinger exiting Turn 4 allowing Corey Heim to take the lead. Heim continued to lead the race when Tyler Tomassi’s truck lost a right front tire and made contact with the Turn 1 wall bringing out the caution on lap 211.
Corey Heim continued to lead with Layne Riggs in second when the race restarted on lap 219. Two laps later, Chandler Smith passed Riggs for second place and began to chase down Corey Heim. Late in the race, Ben Rhodes made contact with Brent Crews spinning him out for the sixth caution. The race went to overtime.
In overtime, Layne Riggs tried to pass Heim for the lead pushing him high at Turn 1. Heim spun and Chandler Smith took the lead and went on to beat Layne Riggs by 0.611 seconds for his second win of the season.
The rest of the top ten finishers were Tyler Ankrum third, Daniel Hemric fourth, Grant Enfinger fifth, Ty Majeski sixth, Gio Ruggiero seventh, Kaden Honeycutt eighth, Kyle Busch ninth, and Sammy Smith tenth. Corey Heim, who led 162 laps, finished in 17th place.
