
The Calgary Stampeders signed defensive backs Sheldon Arnold II and Darren Evans on Saturday. They also placed defensive back Ben DeLuca on the retired list.
Sheldon Arnold II is six foot one and weighs 191 pounds. The 23-year-old from Athens, Georgia, attended the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears rookie minicamps in 2025.
Collegiately, Arnold II played four seasons at East Tennessee State University (2020-23) making 145 tackles (96 solos, 49 assist), 11 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, one sack, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick return for a touchdown in 41 games, of which 17 were starts for the Buccaneers.
In 2023, Arnold II made 87 tackles (53 solos, 34 assists), nine tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions for 105 yards, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 11 games. He was named First Team All-Southern Conference, Second Team All-American by STATS, and Third Team All-American by Phil Steele and FCS Football Central.
Then, he transferred to the University of Central Florida in 2024 making 53 tackles (40 solos, 13 assists), two tackles for loss, one interception, and one pass breakup in 12 games, of which nine were starts for the Knights.
Darren Evans is six foot three and weighs 174 pounds. The 26-year-old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on January 20, 2025. The Ticats released him on May 11, 2025.
The New York Giants signed Evans as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. In 2022, he made 11 tackles (10 solos, 1 assist), and two pass breakups in three preseason games. The Giants released him on September 1, 2022. The Las Vegas Raiders signed Evans to the practice squad on September 27, 2022. Las Vegas released him on October 11, 2022.
The Arlington Renegades drafted Evans in the ninth round (64th pick) in the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft. In 2023, he made five tackles (4 solos, 1 assist), and one interception for -7 yards in 10 games. In the XFL playoffs, he made eight tackles (7 solos, 1 assist) in two games helping the Renegades win the XFL Championship over the D.C. Defenders. In 2024, he made 20 tackles (17 solos, 3 assists), one interception, and two pass breakups in eight games. The Renegades released him on July 18, 2023.
The New York Giants re-signed Evans on July 19, 2023. In 2023, he made 10 tackles (6 solos, 4 assists), and one pass breakup in three preseason games. The Giants released him on August 27, 2023.
Collegiately, Evans played four seasons at Nicholls State (2016-19) making 100 tackles (71 solos, 29 assists), three tackles for loss, four interceptions for five yards, 31 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 38 games for the Colonels. He was named Second Team All-Southland Conference and helped the Colonels win two Southland Conference championships.
Then, he transferred to LSU (2020-21) making 33 tackles (25 solos, 8 assists), and four pass breakups in 22 games for the Tigers.
Ben Deluca is six foot one and weighs 202 pounds. The 27-year-old from Orlando, Florida, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on March 18, 2025.
The Los Angeles Chargers signed Deluca as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. In 2021, he made 11 tackles (8 solos, 3 assists) in three preseason games. Deluca appeared in three regular-season games for the Chargers in his rookie season recording no stats. In 2022, Deluca made 14 tackles (9 solos, 5 assists) in three preseason games. The Chargers released him on August 30, 2022.
The St. Louis Battlehawks drafted Deluca in the first round (3rd pick) in Phase 2 of the 2022 XFL Draft. In 2023, Deluca made 25 tackles (14 solos, 11 assists), two tackles for loss, and one pass breakup in five games, of which three were starts. In 2024, he made four tackles (3 solos, 1 assist) and one pass breakup in four games. He missed most of the season with an undisclosed injury.
Collegiately, Deluca played five seasons at Charlotte (2016-20) making 619 tackles (364 solos, 255 assists), eight tackles for loss, two sacks, four interceptions for 32 yards, 39 pass breakups, 24 forced fumbles, and 15 fumble recoveries in 76 games for the 49ers.
Deluca was named a three-time All-C-USA Honorable Mention, two-time First Team All-C-USA by Pro Football Focus, two-time Second Team All-C-USA by Phil Steele, 2016 C-USA All-Freshman Team, and a two-time Team Co-Captain. He holds the record in career tackles, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, and pass breakups.
