Michigan Panthers sign DT Benning Potoa’e and LB R.J. Moten

The Michigan Panthers signed defensive tackle Benning Potoa’e and linebacker R.J. Moten on Tuesday according to the UFL Transactions page.

Benning Potoa’e is six foot three and weighs 290 pounds. The 28-year-old from DuPont, Washington, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2020. He was on the practice squad when Tampa Bay won Super Bowl LV. Tampa Bay released him on August 30, 2022. The Washington Commanders signed him on September 13, 2022.

Potoa’e played five career games making six tackles (2 solos, 4 assists), and one tackle for loss. In 2024, he made three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist), and one sack in three preseason games. The Commanders released him on August 17, 2024.

Collegiately, Potoa’e played four seasons at Washington (2016-19) making 117 tackles (70 solos, 47 assists), 20.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 53 games for the Huskies.

R.J. Moten is six foot and weighs 229 pounds. A native of Delran, New Jersey, Moten attended the Philadelphia Eagles rookie minicamp last week.

Collegiately, Moten played two seasons at Michigan (2021-22) making 65 tackles (48 solos, 17 assists), three tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, six pass breakups, and one kick return for 28 games for the Wolverines. He was named a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Then, he transferred to Florida (2023-24) making 31 tackles (14 solos, 17 assists), four tackles for loss, half a sack, and one pass breakup in 18 games for the Gators. Moten is the son of Ron Moten, who was a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1987.
