Toronto Argonauts sign DL Jeremiah Ojo and release two players

The Toronto Argonauts signed defensive lineman Jeremiah Ojo and released wide receiver Vyncint Smith and linebacker Brian Holloway on Sunday. Toronto also announced that defensive lineman Andre Carter, defensive back Jai Nunn-Liddell, and kicker Alfredo Gachuz-Lozada were added to the suspended list.

Jeremiah Ojo is six foot two and weighs 246 pounds. The 24-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the first round (7th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft. He attended the New York Giants rookie minicamp last week.

Collegiately, Ojo played four seasons at the University of Montreal (2021-24) making 62 tackles (46 solos, 16 assists), 17 tackles for loss, one interception, five forced fumbles, and two pass breakups in 24 games for the Carabins.

Vyncint Smith is six foot three and weighs 195 pounds. The 28-year-old from Bad Windsheim, Germany, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 3, 2025.

The Houston Texans signed Smith as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2018. In 2018, he made five catches for 91 yards and one touchdown in seven games. In 2019, he made two catches for 34 yards, one touchdown, three kick returns for 59 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in four preseason games. The Texans released him on August 31, 2019. Next, Smith was signed by the New York Jets on September 23, 2019.

Smith played three seasons in New York making 18 catches for 238 yards, three carries for 52 yards, one touchdown, and 12 kick returns for 322 yards in 22 games. He would later spend time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos.

The Indianapolis Colts signed Smith on October 17, 2022. In 2022, he made one catch for two yards in two preseason games. In 2023, he appeared in one preseason game recording no stats. The Colts released him on August 29, 2023.

The D.C. Defenders signed Smith on March 5, 2024. In 2024, he made six catches for 100 yards, one touchdown, and two kick returns for 43 yards in seven games. He became a free agent after the 2024 season.

Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Limestone University (2014-17) making 153 catches for 2,371 yards, 11 touchdowns, one carry for eight yards, eight punt returns for 24 yards, and five tackles (5 solos) in 40 games for the Saints. He was named Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference in 2017.

Brian Holloway is six foot and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Clear Lake, Texas, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Toronto Argonauts signed Holloway on December 9, 2024.

Collegiately, Holloway played one season at Kilgore College in 2018 making 45 tackles (25 solos, 20 assists), four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, six fumble recoveries, one interception for 21 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Rangers.

Next, he transferred to Southern Methodist University (2019-21) making 31 tackles (20 solos, 11 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 25 games for the Mustangs. Then, he transferred to Texas State (2022-23) making 153 tackles (81 solos, 72 assists), 21 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions for 87 yards, two touchdowns, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 24 games for the Bobcats.

In 2023, Holloway made 104 tackles (59 solos, 45 assists), 16 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four interceptions for 87 yards, two touchdowns, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 13 games.

In the 2023 SERVPRO First Responder Bowl against Rice, Holloway made six tackles (4 solos, 2 assists), two interceptions for 84 yards, and two touchdowns helping the Bobcats beat the Owls 45-21, and was named MVP. He was named Second Team All-Bun Belt.
