Kyle Larson dominates to victory at Kansas Speedway for third win of the season

The NASCAR Cup Series visited Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon in the AdventHealth 400. Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports started the race on the pole with Chris Buescher of Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing starting second.

On the sixth lap of the race, A.J. Allmendinger suffered an engine failure that left fluid on the trace leading to the first caution of the race. Kyle Larson led the opening 39 laps before making a pit stop. Alex Bowman, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Ty Dillon also led laps before the lead cycled back to Kyle Larson. Larson went on to win the first stage.

Chase Elliott was the new leader when Stage 2 began. He led two laps before losing the lead to Kyle Larson. Larson led 37 laps before making a pit stop and Carson Hocevar was the new leader. Larson re-gained the lead on lap 90 and led the rest of the way to win the second stage.

Kyle Larson was still the leader to begin the final stage. On lap 195, Brad Keselowski’s car suffered a flat right rear tire before hitting the wall in between Turns 1 and 2 for the second caution of the race. Shortly after the restart on lap 201, Ty Dillon got loose and made contact with Cody Ware and Daniel Suarez was also involved in the crash.

Not long after the restart, Kyle Busch spun on the backstretch on lap 207 to bring out another caution. The race restarted on lap 213, Justin Haley and Corey Heim were battling for the 20th position when resulted in Haley crashed into Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace was also involved.

Despite all the cautions, Kyle Larson dominated the race, leading 221 laps on his way to winning the race by 0.712 seconds over Christopher Bell. It was Larson’s third win of the season and the 32nd of his career. He is now tied with Dale Jarrett for 29th on the all-time career win list.

The rest of the top five finishers were Ryan Blaney third, Chase Briscoe fourth, and Alex Bowman fifth. There were seven cautions for 37 laps and 15 lead changes among nine drivers.
