
The D.C. Defenders (5-2) visited the Alamodome on Friday night against the San Antonio Brahmas (1-6) in their final meeting of the season. This was a rematch from Week 4, where the Brahmas got their first and only win of the season over the Defenders 24-18 in D.C.
In the first quarter, D.C. quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Sanders. However, San Antonio used a super challenge for a potential penalty on D.C., and they won the challenge.
D.C. got another crack in their next series. After a one-handed catch by Briley Moore, D.C. reached the one-yard line and Deon Jackson scored the touchdown. The Defenders did not get the two-point conversion and led the Brahmas 6-0 with 1:43 left of the first quarter. The Defenders maintained a 6-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, San Antonio quarterback Kevin Hogan completed a short pass to Alize Mack for a 7-yard touchdown. They did not get the one-point conversion and the game was tied 6-6 with 10:19 left. Later in the second quarter, San Antonio kicker Tristan Vizcaino made a 22-yard field goal for a 9-6 lead with 6:15 left.
Late in the second quarter, San Antonio kicker Tristan Vizcaino made a 54-yard field goal extending their lead to 12-6 with 1:38 left. D.C. got a big break when they blitzed San Antonio quarterback Kevin Hogan. Hogan ran into one of his offensive linemen and fumbled the ball. D.C. linebacker Anthony Hines III scooped it up and took it in for a touchdown. D.C. did not get the two-point conversion and the game was tied 12-12 heading to halftime.
In the third quarter, San Antonio quarterback Kevin Hogan completed a two-yard touchdown pass to Steven Stilianos. They did not get the one-point conversion and led the Defenders 18-12 with 8:10 left.
D.C. responded when quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Cornell Powell. They were able to get the one-point conversion to take a 19-18 lead with 1:44 left. The Defenders led the Brahmas 19-18 with one quarter left to play.
In the fourth quarter, D.C. quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw a long pass to Braylon Sanders for a 76-yard touchdown. They did not get the one-point conversion and led the Brahmas 25-18 with 10:17 left.
San Antonio came back when running back Jashaun Corbin followed his offensive linemen to score a 57-yard touchdown. They did not get the two-point conversion and D.C. maintained a 25-24 lead with 9:27 left.
Late in the fourth quarter, D.C. put the game away when quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw a four-yard touchdown pass to offensive lineman Gunner Britton. They got the one-point conversion and went on to defeat the San Antonio Brahmas by the final score of 32-24.
D.C. had 353 yards of offense led by quarterback Jordan Ta’amu completing 19 of 24 passes (79.2%) for 278 yards, three touchdowns, and four carries for nine yards. Running back Deon Jackson led the rushers with 10 carries for 45 yards and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Braylon Sanders led the receivers making one catch for 76 yards and one touchdown, while Cornell Powell made five catches for 70 yards and one touchdown. The defense made 58 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown.
San Antonio had 366 yards of offense led by quarterback Kevin Hogan completing 20 of 31 passes (64.5%) for 239 yards, two touchdowns, and five carries for 32 yards. Running back Jashaun Corbin led the rushers with nine carries for 109 yards and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Jontre Kirklin led the receivers making seven catches for 52 yards, while Steven Stilianos made five catches for 46 yards, and one touchdown, and Alize Mack made two catches for 16 yards, and one touchdown.
Kicker Tristan Vizcaino made two field goals with a long of 56 yards. The defense made 51 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and two pass breakups.
