Calgary Stampeders release nine players ahead of training camp

The Calgary Stampeders released quarterback Joey Gatewood, wide receivers Marcus Washington, Tykee Ogle-Kellogg, and Maxim Malenfant, offensive lineman Khadere Kounta, defensive linemen Jett Bush and Cedrick Lattimore, and defensive backs Anthony Cook and Londyn Craft on Saturday. In addition, Calgary placed defensive lineman Charles Wiley on the injured-veteran list.

Joey Gatewood is six foot four and weighs 245 pounds. The 25-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Calgary Stampeders signed him on February 25, 2025.

Collegiately, Gatewood played two seasons at Auburn (2018-19) as a quarterback completing 5 of 8 passes (62.5%) for 54 yards, two touchdowns, 32 carries for 176 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games for the Tigers.

Next, he transferred to Kentucky in 2020 completing 17 of 35 passes (48.6%) for 109 yards, one interception, and 25 carries for 62 yards in seven games for the Wildcats. Then, he transferred to the University of Central Florida in 2021 completing 2 of 8 passes (25%) for 17 yards, one touchdown, 28 carries for 142 yards, and one touchdown in 10 games for the Knights.

Gatewood concluded his collegiate career at Louisville in 2023, switching from quarterback to tight end making nine catches for 150 yards, and three touchdowns in 12 games for the Cardinals. After the season, Gatewood played in the Tropical Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Marcus Washington is six foot two and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Calgary Stampeders signed Washington on January 23, 2025.

Collegiately, Washington played three seasons at Texas (2019-21) making 25 catches for 366 yards and three touchdowns in 30 games for the Longhorns. Then, Washington transferred to Nebraska (2022-23) making 39 catches for 647 yards, and one touchdown in 18 games for the Cornhuskers. In 2023, he made eight catches for 176 yards in six games before an injury ended his season.

Tykee Ogle-Kellogg is six foot five and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Alcoa, Tennessee, attended the Washington Commanders rookie minicamp in 2024. The Calgary Stampeders signed Ogle-Kellogg on January 23, 2025.

Collegiately, Ogle-Kellogg played six seasons at the University of Texas-San Antonio (2018-23) making 89 catches for 1,358 yards, and 15 touchdowns in 53 games for the Roadrunners.

In 2023, he made 33 catches for 575 yards, and 7 touchdowns in 13 games helping the Roadrunners appear in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl against Marshall. He made three catches for 54 yards helping UTSA beat Marshall 35-17 for their first bowl win in program history.

Maxim Malenfant is five foot ten and weighs 190 pounds. The 26-year-old from Drummondville, Quebec, re-signed with the Calgary Stampeders on November 27, 2024.

The Calgary Stampeders signed Malenfant on May 2, 2024. Malenfant did not play in the preseason. The Stampeders released him on July 17, 2024, as he returned to Ottawa for his final collegiate season.

Malenfant played five seasons at the University of Ottawa (2019, 2021-24) making 47 catches for 526 yards, three touchdowns, four carries for 28 yards, seven kick returns for 111 yards, five punt returns for 82 yards, and 10 tackles (8 solo, 2 assists) in 30 games for the Gee-Gees. He was named a two-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian.

In 2023, Malenfant made 29 catches for 266 yards, three touchdowns, three carries for 18 yards, one kick return for 16 yards, and three tackles (2 solos, 1 assist) in eight games for the Ottawa Gee-Gees. He led the Gee-Gees with three touchdown catches and finished second on the team in receptions (29) and receiving yards (266). In 2024, he made 10 catches for 122 yards, one carry for 10 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in four games.

Khadere Kounta is six foot six and weighs 310 pounds. The 25-year-old from Gaithersburg, Maryland, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Calgary Stampeders signed Kounta on March 31, 2025.

Collegiately, Kounta played three seasons at Old Dominion (2019, 2021-22) playing left tackle in 33 games for the Monarchs. In 2022, Old Dominion averaged 19.50 points per game, 92.3 rushing yards per game, 247.2 passing yards per game, 339.4 total yards per game, 29 touchdowns, and allowed 35 sacks finishing 3-9 for the season.

Then, Kounta transferred to UCLA in 2023 as a reserve offensive lineman playing 10 games. In 2023, UCLA averaged 26.46 points per game, 197.9 rushing yards per game, 229.15 passing yards per game, 427.1 total yards per game, 46 touchdowns, and allowed 42 sacks finishing 8-5 for the season winning the LA Bowl over Boise State.

Jett Bush is six foot two and weighs 243 pounds. The 24-year-old from Houston, Texas, re-signed with the Stampeders on October 27, 2024.

Bush attended the New England Patriots rookie minicamp in 2024. The Calgary Stampeders signed Bush on September 29, 2024. He spent several weeks on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Bush played five seasons at Texas (2019-23) making 63 tackles (37 solos, 26 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception for 43 yards, one touchdown, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

In 2023, Bush made 17 tackles (8 solos, 9 assists), three tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception for 43 yards, one touchdown, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 14 games.

Cedrick Lattimore is six foot three and weighs 295 pounds. The 27-year-old from Redford, Michigan, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on February 3, 2025.

The Seattle Seahawks signed Lattimore as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2020. In 2020, he made six tackles (3 solos, 3 assists) against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card playoffs. In 2021, he made five tackles (5 solos) in two preseason games. The Seahawks released him on August 23, 2021.

The Philadelphia Stars signed Lattimore as a free agent on April 22, 2022. In 2022, Lattimore made 17 tackles (8 solos, 9 assists), three tackles for loss, and half a sack in six games.

In 2023, Lattimore made seven tackles (1 solo, 6 assists) and one tackle for loss in three games. He re-signed with the Stars on September 29, 2023. However, he became a free agent when the Stars were not included in the USFL and XFL merger forming the United Football League.

Collegiately, Lattimore played four seasons at Iowa (2016-19) making 81 tackles (39 solos, 42 assists), seven tackles for loss, six sacks, and one forced fumble in 44 games for the Hawkeyes.

Anthony Cook is six foot one and weighs 188 pounds. The 24-year-old from Houston, Texas, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on January 30, 2025.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Cook as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2023. In 2023, he made seven tackles (5 solos, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Chiefs released him on August 29, 2023.

Collegiately, Cook played five seasons at Texas (2018-22) making 167 tackles (105 solos, 62 assists), 10 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one carry for -4 yards in 60 games for the Longhorns. In 2022, he made 61 tackles (35 solos, 26 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 13 games. He was named a two-time Big 12 Honorable Mention (2021-22).

Londyn Craft is six foot one and weighs 205 pounds. The 27-year-old from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Calgary Stampeders signed Craft on January 16, 2025.

Collegiately, Craft played three seasons at Mississippi State (2018-21) making 57 tackles (31 solos, 26 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 20 games for the Bulldogs. Next, he transferred to Kentucky in 2022 but did not play a game for the Wildcats. Then, he transferred to Eastern Michigan in 2023 making 27 tackles (11 solos, 16 assists), and two tackles for loss in 13 games for the Eagles.

Charles Wiley is six foot two and weighs 251 pounds. The 26-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, made 12 tackles, one tackle on special teams, and two sacks in 10 games for the Stampeders in 2024.

The Baltimore Ravens signed Wiley as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2022. In 2022, he made five tackles (3 solos, 2 assists), and 1.5 sacks in three preseason games. The Ravens released him on August 30, 2022.

Next, Wiley signed with the New York Giants on September 1, 2022. The Giants released him on September 27, 2022. The Houston Roughnecks signed Wiley on February 1, 2023. In 2023, he made six tackles (1 solo, 5 assists), and one sack in seven games. The Roughnecks released him on August 6, 2023, and he signed with the Cleveland Browns on August 7, 2023.

In 2023, Wiley made two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) and three quarterback hits in two preseason games. The Browns released him on August 24, 2023. He re-signed with the Houston Roughnecks shortly after his release from the Browns. The Roughnecks released him on December 15, 2023.

Collegiately, Wiley played three seasons at Ole Miss (2017-19) with 57 tackles (25 solos, 32 assists), 12 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks in 33 games for the Rebels. Then, he transferred to the University of Texas-San Antonio (2020-21) with 36 tackles (18 solos, 18 assists), nine tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one pass breakup in 14 games for the Roadrunners.
