The NTT IndyCar Series kicked off the month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on Saturday in the Sonsio Grand Prix. Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing started the race on the pole with Graham Rahal of RLL Racing started in second. Before the race started, Josef Newgarden’s car had a hybrid issue.

Alex Palou led the opening lap before Graham Rahal passed him for the lead on the second lap. Rahal led 19 laps before making his first pit stop on lap 21, and Marcus Armstrong was the new leader. Once the pit stop cycles were complete, Rahal was the leader once again.

Rahal led up to lap 40 before making his second pit stop. Devlin DeFrancesco led one lap, and Marcus Armstrong led four laps. Once the second pit stop cycle was complete, Rahal resumed the lead.

While Rahal was leading, Alex Palou was coming. On lap 58, Palou made a power move on the inside of Turn 7 to take the lead for good. On lap 70, David Malukas had a mechanical issue and the caution came out for the first time since the first lap of St. Pete’s of this year.

The race restarted on lap 72. Alex Palou started to distance himself of second-place Pato O’Ward. Meanwhile, Graham Rahal fell to sixth place. Palou cruised to his fourth win of the season by 5.4840 seconds over Pato O’Ward.

The rest of the top five finishers were Will Power third, Scott McLaughlin fourth, and Scott Dixon fifth. For Palou, it was his third consecutive win on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

The NTT IndyCar Series next race is the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 11 am on Fox. Purchase tickets for all IndyCar races today at StubHub.
