The NTT IndyCar Series visited Barber Motorsports Park on Sunday afternoon in the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix. Chip Ganassi Racing driver Alex Palou started the race on the pole with Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin starting second.

The only time the lead changed during the race was when the drivers were making pit stops. Alex Palou led the opening 23 laps before making his first stop and Marcus Armstrong was the new leader. He led two laps before making a pit stop and Alex Palou resumed the lead.

Palou led up until lap 46 when he made his second pit stop and Marcus Armstrong took the lead for the second time. After Armstrong made a pit stop on lap 50, Alex Palou took the lead for the third time in the race. Teams were trying to adjust their pit road strategy to attempt to challenge Palou but Palou’s pit crew were on top of their game all race long.

Palou made his final pit stop on lap 65 and Scott McLaughlin took the lead. McLaughlin led three laps before Palou regained the lead and never looked back. Late in the race, Marcus Armstrong had to pit again due to a refueling problem and as a result, went one lap down.

On the final lap, Alex Palou dominated the race beating Christian Lundgaard by 16.0035 seconds for his third win of the season and his first win from the pole position. He led 81 laps and it was his 14th career IndyCar win. Barber was also the place where Palou won his first career IndyCar win in 2021. Marcus Armstrong led six laps and Scott McLaughlin led three laps.

There were no caution in this race and six lead changes among three drivers. The rest of the top five finishers were Scott McLaughlin third, Rinus VeeKay fourth, and Will Power fifth.

The NTT IndyCar Series heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course next Saturday for the Sonsio Grand Prix at 4:30 pm on Fox. Purchase tickets for all IndyCar races today at StubHub.
