
The NASCAR Xfinity Series visited Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. The story coming into this race was JR Motorsports driver Connor Zilisch suffered an injury last week and was unable to compete in this race. Filling in for him was Kyle Larson. Austin Hill started the race on the pole with Justin Allgaier starting second.
On the opening lap of Stage 1, Ryan Ellis spun after contact with Christian Eckes at Turn to bring out the first caution of the race. Shortly after the restart, Sammy Smith made contact with the rear of Leland Honeyman sending Honeyman to spin and collide with Nick Leitz to bring out the second caution on the seventh lap.
Justin Allgaier led the opening 24 laps. A spin by Josh Bilicki after making contact with Leland Honeyman at Turn 4 led to the fourth caution coming out. On the restart, Austin Hill led a lap before Allgaier got the lead back on lap 26. He led the final 26 laps to win Stage 1.
In Stage 2, Kris Wright spun down the backstretch to bring out the caution on lap 89. The caution ended the second stage with Austin Hill winning it followed by Justin Allgaier, Sheldon Creed, Nick Sanchez, and Sam Mayer.
In the final stage on lap 99, Josh Williams spun just past the start/finish line collecting Katherine Legge, Mason Massey, Garrett Smithley, Anthony Alfredo, Ryan Ellis, and Josh Bilicki leading to another caution.
Shortly after the restart, Sheldon Creed and Justin Allgaier were battling for the second position when Creed made contact with Jesse Love and Corey Day off the exit of Turn 2. It was the seventh caution of the race.
On lap 156, Justin Allgaier made contact with Kris Wright on the frontstretch leading to another caution. Kyle Larson was the new leader after everyone made a pit stop. Late in the race, Austin Hill tagged Sammy Smith sending Smith into the wall for another caution sending the race into overtime.
In overtime, Jeremy Clements got loose at the exit of Turn 2 and hit the wall for the eleventh caution of the day. On the restart, Kyle Larson charged past Sam Mayer for the lead. Larson quickly extended the lead on his way to winning the race by 1.265 seconds over Taylor Gray.
It was Larson’s second win of the season in the Xfinity Series, second win at Texas Motor Speedway, and the 17th career Xfinity Series win. The rest of the top ten finishers were Riley Herbst third, Austin Hill fourth, Sam Mayer fifth, Harrison Burton sixth, Jesse Love seventh, Ryan Sieg eighth, Brandon Jones ninth, and Jeb Burton tenth.
There were 11 cautions for 62 laps and 12 lead changes among six drivers. Justin Allgaier led the most laps of the race (99) and Larson 58 laps.
