Corey Heim survives two overtimes to win at Texas Motor Speedway

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series visited Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night in the SpeedyCash.com 250. Tyler Ankrum started the race on the pole with Daniel Hemric starting second.

In Stage 1, there was one caution on lap 31 when Giovanni Ruggiero clipped the frontstretch grass and slammed into Kaden Honeycutt. Stewart Friesen and Brandon Jones were also involved in the crash. Honeycutt, Ruggiero, and Jones were done for the day, while Friesen was able to continue. Tyler Ankrum led the opening 24 laps, Layne Riggs led 10 laps, Matt Crafton led three laps, and Grant Enfinger led five laps to win the first stage.

In Stage 2, there were three cautions. Layne Riggs spun on lap 53 after contact with Ty Majeski, and on lap 57 saw Andres Perez De Lara spin after contact with Nick Sanchez. On lap 64, Layne Riggs spun after making contact with Luke Fenhaus sustaining heavy damage, and was done for the night finishing in 28th place. The second stage was won by Corey Heim.

In the final stage, Frankie Muniz made hard contact with the wall in between Turns 1 and 2 to bring out the caution on lap 147. On lap 156, an accident between Stewart Friesen, Chandler Smith, and Grant Enfinger brought the caution and a red flag to clean up debris.

Late in the race, Jake Garcia and Connor Mosack at Turn 2 sent the race into overtime. In overtime, debris at Turn 1 brought out another caution that sent the race into a second overtime. Finally, Corey Heim battled Ben Rhodes for the lead and Heim held on to win the race by 0.279 seconds over Daniel Hemric. It was Heim’s first win in Texas and the third win of this season.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Rajah Caruth third, Tyler Ankrum fourth, Tanner Gray fifth, Ben Rhodes sixth, Matt Crafton seventh, Bayley Currey eighth, Dawson Sutton ninth, and Ty Majeski tenth.
