The Birmingham Stallions re-signed quarterback J’Mar Smith and placed quarterback Matt Corral (hip) on injured reserve on Friday according to the UFL Transactions page.

J’Mar Smith is six foot one and weighs 218 pounds. The 28-year-old from Meridian, Mississippi, re-signed with the Stallions on August 11, 2023. He did not see any action in 2024. The Stallions re-signed Smith on August 20, 2024. Smith was the backup quarterback to Case Cookus last Friday against the Memphis Showboats. The Stallions released him on April 25, 2025.

Smith signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2020. After New England, he had a tryout with the Green Bay Packers before signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) on May 17, 2021, and was assigned to the practice squad. However, he was released a month later.

The Birmingham Stallions drafted Smith in the 12th round (96th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. Smith completed 131 of 239 passes (54.8%) for 1,573 yards, ten touchdowns, six interceptions, 38 carries for 187 yards, and two touchdowns in nine games, of which seven were starts for the Stallions. He is a two-time USFL Champion.

In 2023, Smith completed 10 of 15 passes (66.7%) for 160 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and two carries for one yard against the New Jersey Generals in Week 1 before suffering an injury on his left non-throwing ring finger and missed the rest of the 2023 season as the Stallions won their second USFL Championship over the Pittsburgh Maulers.

Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Louisiana Tech (2016-19) completing 759 of 1,280 passes (59%) for 9,523 yards, 51 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 326 carries for 856 yards, and 15 touchdowns in 44 games for the Bulldogs.

He was named First Team All-Conference USA, and C-USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 after completing 236 of 367 passes (64%) for 2,977 yards, 18 touchdowns, five interceptions, 100 carries for 264 yards, and four touchdowns in 11 games.

Matt Corral is six foot two and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Ventura, California, re-signed with the Birmingham Stallions on December 26, 2024. In 2025, Corral completed 51 of 95 passes (53.7%) for 648 yards, four touchdowns, four interceptions, and 17 carries for 91 yards in three games before he suffered the injury against the Memphis Showboats in Week 5.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Corral in the third round (94th pick) of the 2022 NFL Draft. In 2023, Corral completed 28 of 47 passes (59.6%) for 249 yards, one interception, and four carries for 47 yards in three preseason games.

The Panthers released him on August 30, 2023. The New England Patriots acquired Corral via waivers on August 31, 2023. The Patriots released Corral on September 18, 2023.

The Birmingham Stallions signed Corral on February 13, 2024. In 2024, Corral completed 36 of 62 passes (58.1%) for 494 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and 15 carries for 92 yards.

In the 2024 UFL Playoffs, Corral completed 9 of 11 passes (81.8%) for 120 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and one carry for two years helping the Stallions win their third consecutive championship (2 USFL, 1 UFL).

The Birmingham Stallions released him on August 15, 2024. The Minnesota Vikings signed Corral on August 16, 2024. Corral completed 4 of 6 passes (66.7%) for 13 yards, and five carries for -6 yards in two preseason games. The Vikings released him on August 26, 2024.

Collegiately, Corral played four seasons at Ole Miss (2018-21) completing 614 of 912 passes (67%) for 8,287 yards, 57 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, 334 carries for 1,338 yards, 18 touchdowns, and one catch for 19 yards in 37 games for the Rebels. In 2021, Corral won the Conerly Trophy, was named the Outback Bowl MVP, and was named Second Team All-SEC.
